Concert Ensembles (CB, SB, WE) A reminder that all Google Forms and syllabus slips are due TODAY, September 1! Be sure to also mark your family calendars with our performances, as we need every student to perform in order to have a successful performance! If your student is missing anything, please have them complete:
Cougar Marching Band Our annual Arts & Apples performance is coming up this week. If you are a parent/adult who will be driving your student and might have an open seat or two for other students needing transportation, please let me know! This Week: Wed/Thurs Sept 7 & 8: AM Rehearsals, 6:15-7:15am, Stadium Field Friday, Sept 9: Arts & Apples Performance & Home Game (Click for Timeline) Next Week: Monday, Sept 12: 6-9pm Rehearsal Wed/Thurs Sept 14 & 15: AM Rehearsals, 6:15-7:15am SCHS Bands to Orlando, Florida The Cougar Bands are heading to Florida! We will be traveling February 16-21, 2023 to enjoy the theme parks at Walt Disney World as well as participate in a music recording studio experience giving students a first hand, behind the scenes chance to perform movie soundtrack music in a studio with professional technicians. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we'd love to have you/your students participate! Registration is NOW OPEN for students participate in Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and/or Jazz Band. Registration and itinerary information can be found by clicking here. Remaining registration is LIMITED-- we have 21 remaining seats and need a minimum of 3-4 more adult chaperones in order to travel. Please register ASAP to secure your seat for this awesome musical travel opportunity! Student Leadership Meetings Throughout the school year, student leadership meetings are held to discuss important topics and work on projects like building a positive social media presence for the bands, working on connecting with our community through pep band opportunities, planning and scheduling fun activities for band members, and more. All students, regardless of grade or any position titles, are encouraged to come participate and get involved! The more we have, the better our bands will be. These are particularly important for anyone interested in a leadership role in the Cougar Marching Band in the future. Dates for Leadership Meetings this year will be: September 26th (5:00pm), October 17th (5:00pm), November 14th (5:00pm), February 6th (4:00pm), March 6th (4:00pm), April 10th (2:30pm), May 8th (2:30pm), and June 5th (2:30pm). Students, please mark your calendars- we'd love to have your voice in the meetings! Music Booster Announcements Wanted: Original student artwork for the front cover of the 2022-2023 Concert Program! Please submit digital files at least 2500 x 3300 pixels or 8.5 x 11" at 300 resolution. Portrait orientation in full color. PDF or JPEG. The winning submission will be chosen based on creativity, related content and parameters met, and ability to transfer to print. Winner will have their artwork on the cover of every band, choir and orchestra performance for the 2022-2023 year! Extra-curricular Performance Opportunities Bowling Green State University Honors Band BGSU is pleased to announce our annual High School Honor Bands for Thursday-Saturday November 17-19, 2022. The format of the event includes three full ensembles - one smaller, highly select group and 2 larger ability-tiered groups. All groups work closely with BGSU faculty, staff, students and renowned guest clinicians. Students will arrive on Thursday November 17, rehearse over the next two days, and perform a final concert on Saturday afternoon. The cost of the clinic is $175 for students reserving a hotel room, and $110 for commuter students. The clinic fee covers all instruction, most meals, and an honor band shirt to wear for the performance. Students must first be nominated by their director before being accepted. If you/your student wishes to participate, please let Mrs. Staniszewski know by Monday, September 12th in order to complete the nomination process. All accepted students and directors will be notified via email on or before Sept. 26 of their acceptance and details on how to proceed. MSBOA All-State Ensemble Auditions The Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association All-State Auditions will be held October 22-12, 2022. Auditions will be held at Walled Lake Northern High School. Students selected to participate in the MSBOA All-State Ensembles will rehearse and perform in Grand Rapids, MI in January 2023 at the Michigan Music Conference. This is an amazing ensemble experience and all motivated students are highly encouraged to audition!
