Welcome back from what I hope was an enjoyable summer break! It's great to have music back in the band room again and I'm looking forward to great year ahead.
Each week throughout the school year, I will post updates for upcoming events, important announcements, and opportunities for students here on the News & Updates section of our website. Please bookmark this site and be sure to visit as much as needed-- all our important program information throughout the year will be posted here to help aid in communications, materials, and of course, news & updates. Concert Ensembles (CB, SB, WE) All bands will be receiving the following materials in classes and on Google Classroom this week:

Be sure to also mark your family calendars with our performances, as we need every student to perform in order to have a successful performance! Cougar Marching Band This Week: Monday, August 29: PM Rehearsal 6-9pm Meet in Auditorium Parking Lot in Captions for Warm-Ups; we will move to stadium field later. Pizza Party Winners will have their party beginning at 5pm before this rehearsal! Please note: NO AM Rehearsals this first week of school! First AM rehearsal will be Wed, Sept 7 at 6:15am on Stadium Field Thursday, September 1: Home Opener Game vs. Bloomfield The timeline for this event can be found by clicking here. Upcoming Events: Wed/Thurs Sept 7 & 8: AM Rehearsals, 6:15-7:15am, Stadium Field Friday, Sept 9: Arts & Apples Performance & Home Game Student Leadership Meetings Throughout the school year, student leadership meetings are held to discuss important topics and work on projects like building a positive social media presence for the bands, working on connecting with our community through pep band opportunities, planning and scheduling fun activities for band members, and more. All students, regardless of grade or any position titles, are encouraged to come participate and get involved! The more we have, the better our bands will be. These are particularly important for anyone interested in a leadership role in the Cougar Marching Band in the future. Dates for Leadership Meetings this year will be: September 26th (5:00pm), October 17th (5:00pm), November 14th (5:00pm), February 6th (4:00pm), March 6th (4:00pm), April 10th (2:30pm), May 8th (2:30pm), and June 5th (2:30pm). Students, please mark your calendars- we'd love to have your voice in the meetings! Music Booster Announcements Wanted: Original student artwork for the front cover of the 2022-2023 Concert Program! Please submit digital files at least 2500 x 3300 pixels or 8.5 x 11" at 300 resolution. Portrait orientation in full color. PDF or JPEG. No flattened layers Please include the following text: -2022-2023 Concert Season -Stoney Creek High School and Hart Middle School Departments of Music -Celebrating 20 years of Artistry -Please do not include directors names Submit to Elise Faurote at [email protected] by September 23rd. The winning submission will be chosen based on creativity, related content and parameters met, and ability to transfer to print. Winner will have their artwork on the cover of every band, choir and orchestra performance for the 2022-2023 year! Extra-curricular Performance Opportunities Bowling Green State University Honors Band BGSU is pleased to announce our annual High School Honor Bands for Thursday-Saturday November 17-19, 2022. The format of the event includes three full ensembles - one smaller, highly select group and 2 larger ability-tiered groups. All groups work closely with BGSU faculty, staff, students and renowned guest clinicians. Students will arrive on Thursday November 17, rehearse over the next two days, and perform a final concert on Saturday afternoon. The cost of the clinic is $175 for students reserving a hotel room, and $110 for commuter students. The clinic fee covers all instruction, most meals, and an honor band shirt to wear for the performance. Students must first be nominated by their director before being accepted. If you/your student wishes to participate, please let Mrs. Staniszewski know by Monday, September 12th in order to complete the nomination process. All accepted students and directors will be notified via email on or before Sept. 26 of their acceptance and details on how to proceed. MSBOA All-State Ensemble Auditions The Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association All-State Auditions will be held October 22-12, 2022. Auditions will be held at Walled Lake Northern High School. Students selected to participate in the MSBOA All-State Ensembles will rehearse and perform in Grand Rapids, MI in January 2023 at the Michigan Music Conference. This is an amazing ensemble experience and all motivated students are highly encouraged to audition! If you/your student are interested in auditioning, please complete the last page of this informational packet and to Mrs. Stansizewski by Monday, September 26, 2022. The last few days of summer are here and we are gearing up for an exciting fall. Here are some important reminders and updates to review as we push on full steam ahead toward the fall season:
Monday, August 22: PM Rehearsal, Stadium Field, 6-9pm Seniors, Section Leaders/Captains/DMs, and Color Guard need to arrive by 5pm for make-up pictures for our fall media programs. Please arrive in full uniform for these pictures. Pictures will be taken in the Courtyard prior to our rehearsal beginning at 6pm. Please also note: this is the last day to turn in Bottle/Can Funds for our competition! Be sure to turn in your entries at this rehearsal to count towards the Pizza Party Prize! Wednesday, August 24: RCS Teacher Kick Off The timeline for this event can be found by clicking here. Thursday, August 25: AWAY vs. Port Huron Our Student Leadership Team is busy working to assemble our Pep Band for our first game of the year, away at Port Huron. If you/your student is interested in participating, please click here to join the group chat for more details/to sign up. If we are cleared to get a Pep Band Bus, we will need 2 adult chaperones-- please let Mrs. Staniszewski know if you are a cleared adult wanting to help! We also have kicked off our Fall Can Drive! Students are asked to collect and return as many cans as they can, then return the funds in a marked envelope to the mailbox in the band room. The winning section will earn a pizza dinner party before our rehearsal on August 29th. Entries are due at our rehearsal on August 22nd to be tabulated prior to the next rehearsal.
