I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving holiday break! We kick things into high gear this week as we work towards a number of performances to come between now and Winter Break. Here is this week's update:
CONCERT ENSEMBLES/BAND CLASSES CONGRATULATIONS to Julian F. & Emily D. on being selected to perform with the 2016 MSBOA All-State Symphony Orchestra! This year over 2,600 auditions were scheduled across the state of Michigan for the All-State ensembles. Julian is one of two selected clarinet players and Emily is one of two selected oboe players to perform with this year's Symphony Orchestra. The performances by these ensembles will be a showcase of what is happening in Michigan bands and orchestras at the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids on Saturday, January 23rd. This is a very prestigious honor; be sure to congratulate them for their accomplishments! Chamber Groups Needed! We are looking for chamber groups to perform as interludes for our Winter Concert. If interested and not yet spoken with Mrs. Staniszewski, please let her know. Chamber Groups also needed to perform at the Michigan Music Conference: On Friday, January 22nd, 2016, Mrs. Staniszewski looking for 1-2 chamber groups to perform at the Michigan Music Conference at the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI. This conference is the premier, state wide Music Education conference for Michigan; it is a huge honor to attend and perform! Student group(s) selected to perform will be excused from school on Friday, Jan 22nd, and are invited to explore the rest of the conference, including all exhibits and performances, as a participant. Any student group wishing to be considered for this great opportunity will need to express their interest to Mrs. Staniszewski prior to our S&E Clinics on Thursday, January 7th. Large Chamber Ensembles- All large chamber groups will rehearse this week at their respective times. MARCHING BAND Rehearsals: Our next rehearsal is Monday, November 30 for the Rochester Christmas Parade. Rehearsal will likely end early, but will depend on how quickly we are able to accomplish what we need in order to have a great performance on Friday. This will be our ONLY rehearsal prior to the parade. Please be ready to review the Cougar Christmas Medley, memorized. Rehearsal will begin in the band room promptly at 6pm. Rochester Christmas Parade/End of Year Party: Sunday, December 6, 2015 The Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade is quickly approaching! This year's event will be on Sunday, December 6th, 2015. The timeline for the parade can be found here: Click here for Timeline. This year's End of Year party will also be taking place on Sunday, December 6th, in the SCHS Cafeteria immediately following the conclusion of the parade. An early dinner will be served as we honor all the accomplishments of our season, watch our season's recap, and celebrate our last performance of the year with our Seniors who will be graduating. Marching Band begins rehearsals again to wrap up our season, and our Chamber Music Projects in all band classes are in full swing! Here is this week's update:
CONCERT ENSEMBLES/BAND CLASSES Large Chamber Ensembles- UPDATED Large WW and Large Brass will rehearse at their normal days/times. The Large Percussion Ensemble will NOT meet this Friday. Google Classroom- Students, please submit any missing Google Classroom assignments as soon as possible in order to ensure your grade is accurate in myRCS. Upcoming Events

Rehearsal will likely end early, but will depend on how quickly we are able to accomplish what we need in order to have a great performance on Friday. This will be our ONLY rehearsal prior to the Village Tree Lighting on Friday night. Please be ready to review the Cougar Christmas Medley, and be sure to have both your flip folio and a lyre if music is not memorized. Rehearsal will begin in the band room promptly at 6pm before we move out into the parking lot. End of Year Party: This year's End of Year party will be taking place in the SCHS Cafeteria immediately following the conclusion of the Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 6th. Dinner will be served as we honor all the accomplishments of our season, watch our season's recap, and celebrate our last performance of the year with our Seniors who will be graduating. RSVP forms and $5/person are due this Friday, November 20th. Please get in your RSVPs as soon as possible! Village Tree Lighting: Friday, November 20th The Cougar MB will once again be performing for The Village of Rochester Hills' annual Tree Lighting Ceremony this coming Friday. MB Attendance Policy Reminder: Please note that attendance is required for all MB rehearsals and events. Band is truly one of the ultimate team activities; when one person is absent and a hole is left in their spot or their part is not performed, our show is not as effective. We at our best only when every member is present. If a student is not able to attend any rehearsal or event, advanced notice needs to be given in writing (e-mail) to Mrs. Staniszewski for it to be excused. CONCERT ENSEMBLES/BAND CLASSES Large Chamber Ensembles- Large Brass and Large Percussion will still rehearse on their respective days/times. The large WW ensemble will NOT be rehearsing this week due to no school on Tuesday. Google Classroom- There are still a number of students who have not yet completed their fall goals videos. (If myRCS shows you getting anything other than an A for band, this is why.) Please be sure to submit your videos on Google Classroom as soon as possible. Upcoming Events
MARCHING BAND Rehearsals Rehearsal this week will be on Monday, 11/2, in the Auditorium. Rehearsal will end at approximately 7:30pm. (There will be NO morning rehearsals this week.) Students will need to bring flip folios and lyres as we prepare for our performance for the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. (Please click here for our DRW Performance Timeline.) Students should arrive 15 minutes early to make sure they are ready to start promptly at our start times. Please note, there will be NO Monday night rehearsal on 11/9.
