This is it! Our big festival performances are coming up this week, as well as our rescheduled pre-festival concert! Please read on for all the details in this week's update...
Concert Ensembles RESCHEDULED Pre-Festival Concert: Wednesday, March 2, 2016 Our Pre-Festival Clinic Concert will be held this Wednesday beginning at 7pm in the SCHS Auditorium. All HS students are asked to arrive in concert dress by 6:30pm. We also welcome the 8th Grade Band from Hart MS who will be joining our SCHS Concert Ensembles for this performance! This year's clinician will be Mr. Christopher Marra, doctoral candidate from the University of Michigan. Mr. Marra has many years of teaching experience, and we are very excited to invite him to work with our ensembles as we continue our festival preparations! MSBOA Band Festival Performances THIS WEEK: Right after we perform Wednesday night, we have our annual MSBOA District 4 performances this weekend at Lake Orion HS. Please note, if any students are planning on NOT riding the busses at any point for their festival performances, a note signed by a parent/guardian must be brought in by the end of the week to Mrs. Staniszewski in order to notify our bus chaperones. Also, any students with large instruments needing to go on the truck (including those not performing until Saturday) will need to make sure they are loaded onto the truck on Friday afternoon. Large Chamber Ensembles- Brass: Our next rehearsal will be on Monday, February 29th. Woodwind: You are responsible for keeping up with your parts in the coming months, as we will be performing for our final performance, our Chamber Music Day in Rochester Park on Friday, May 20th. We will resume Tuesday 2:45-3:30pm rehearsals on April 26th, May 3rd, & 17th in order to prepare for our performance. Percussion: Your final performance will be for our Spring Concert on May 11th. Rehearsals will resume with James in April. April 2017 NYC Trip: SCHS Bands to perform at Carnegie Hall! It's official! The SCHS Band program will travel to New York City in April 2017! Our 2017 trip will include many highlights, including working with professional musicians and performing on stage at Carnegie Hall! Other highlights will include: seeing a Broadway show, visiting many NYC landmarks and highlights, sightseeing, and more! Space is LIMITED for this trip. The first 44 students and 10 parent chaperones to submit their deposits will be guaranteed, after which a wait list will be created. Should we have enough students and parents to fill a second bus from the wait list, they will also be cleared for travel. Anyone interested in traveling with us is HIGHLY encouraged to attend and bring a checkbook for the deposit to our initial trip meeting on Wednesday, March 9th at 7pm in the band room (following Parent/Teacher Conferences). We are already mid-way through February, and we have LOTS of excitement ahead in the next weeks leading up to Spring Break! Pre-Festival Concert, Festival at LOHS, State S&E, musical rehearsal start, our NYC trip kick-off, hosting our All-City Band Concert.... Here is this Week's Update!
Concert Ensembles Music Booster Scholarship Auditions: Thursday, February 18th Scholarship auditions will be this Thursday evening. A schedule will be announced later this week, prior to auditions. Also, all parents of pit orchestra musicians are asked to attend the parent meeting for the musical on Thursday, February 18th in the Auditorium from 6-7pm. We are off and running our second semester, so let's get right to it! Here is this week's update:
Student Fundraising Meeting The SCHS Music Boosters will be holding an important meeting on Monday, February 8th at 7pm in the band room for all SCHS music families to introduce a new fundraising opportunity for students looking to offset the costs of Booster sponsored activities. Some of these activities include Band Camp, our band trip for next year to New York City, Solo & Ensemble fees, and more. Both students and parents are encouraged to attend! Concert Ensembles Music Booster Scholarship Auditions: Thursday, February 18th (Letter of Intent due Friday, February 12th!) All SCHS Band students, grades 9-12, are highly encouraged to audition for our Music Booster Scholarships! 5 scholarships of $200 will be awarded to the top 5 auditions of the evening from the band program. Scholarships can be used to pay for private lessons, Blue Lake, or other out-of-district musically enriching experiences (Oakland University camps, etc.) All interested students will need to turn in their Letter of Intent by this Friday, February 12th. Large Chamber Ensembles- Brass: Rehearsals will resume THIS Monday, February 8th, 2:45-3:30pm up through State Solo & Ensemble on March 19th. After State S&E, we will be having a break from rehearsals due to the musical. Our 2:45-3:30pm rehearsals will resume again on Monday, April 25th, May 9th and 16th as we prepare for our final performance at Rochester Park on Friday, May 20th. Woodwind: You are responsible for keeping up with your parts in the coming months, as we will be performing for our final performance, our Chamber Music Day in Rochester Park on Friday, May 20th. We will resume Tuesday 2:45-3:30pm rehearsals on April 26th, May 3rd, & 17th in order to prepare for our performance. Percussion: Your final performance will be for our Spring Concert on May 11th.
