We have another busy week ahead as we look forward to traveling to Chicago and preparing to host State S&E! Here is this week's update:
Concert Ensembles Large Chamber Ensembles Our final large chamber ensemble rehearsals schedule before State S&E is as follows:
Good luck to all our large ensembles preparing for State S&E! State Solo & Ensemble: Saturday, March 17, 2018 We once again have the privilege of hosting the MSBOA State Solo & Ensemble Festival this year! This is an honor to be asked once again, as we will be playing host to over 30 area high schools and their top musicians for this great event. ALL SCHS Band Students need to sign-up to volunteer. Student sign-ups can be found here: https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/4090a4fabad29a02-2017 If you are a soloist in grades 10-12 performing at State S&E, you will need to prepare a proficiency level to perform along with your solo (scales and sightreading). More information about proficiency levels and scales may be found by clicking here. Parents, State S&E needs you too! Over the last ten years, SCHS has developed a reputation as one of the top sites for MSBOA State S&E by participating schools, directors, judges, and MSBOA officials from across the state of Michigan. But in order for this to continue, we need YOU! Our goal is to have every parent and student that visits our school for S&E to share what a well organized and enjoyable event it was. This is our opportunity to showcase not only our outstanding music program, but our school, and our community as well. Please sign up and join us! Based on feedback received from last year's festival, we are asking for monetary donations instead of food donations for our State S&E Concessions. Please click here to donate: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090a4fabad29a02-sedonations Volunteer: www.signupgenius.com/go/4090a4fabad29a02-2018 Chicago/Hamilton Trip: Wednesday, March 14, 2018 Our trip is coming up this Wednesday! Those traveling are will need to arrive to SCHS by 4:30am next Wednesday, as that is the time our bus is scheduled to pick us up. We will meet briefly in the auditorium lobby area before boarding the bus and departing by 5am. I am told the bus will have outlets and WiFi, although the WiFi access is dependent on the area where the bus is (better signal in some areas than others). Students are being advised to bring breakfast with them on the bus, as we will not likely have the opportunity to stop for breakfast on the way to Chicago. (There is a rest stop scheduled.) There WILL be a dinner stop on the way home to grab fast food, so bringing some money for that is also advised. Lunch is included in the trip and will not require payment. I also told students if interested in merchandise, it is not cheap—similar to what you might see at a concert, etc. (T-shirts $35-40, sweatshirts $75, mugs $20, etc.) We are scheduled to arrive back to SCHS around 11pm that night. I will be posting updates on our group’s progress throughout the day on our Facebook group for any families wishing to keep track of our travel/update our ETA. The last time SCHS Bands traveled to Orlando, we had over 80 students performing all together- and it was AMAZING! We hope you will join us for this magical trip! Great performances come from having the discipline to always put forth your best efforts and striving to improve. After all, if we want others to appreciate our music, we must first and foremost value it for ourselves. When we find what drives us to choose daily greatness over more common temptations, others will want to be a part of our artistry- whether it be joining in our band or coming to be an audience member. Greatness attracts greatness.
Today, each of our bands received great feedback that the work they are doing is appreciated. Students, your hard work and discipline were recognized by our audience to the point where your adjudicators recognized and credited you for your work. Ratings aside, what I hope you each come away with most of all is that your music is VALUED. You enhance people’s lives through your music. In a very real way, you make the world a better place through your artistry. If you would like to listen to our recordings and/or hear the judge's recorded comments, I'd invite you to check out this folder on the documents section of our website: drive.google.com/open?id=1hrizgsh5jUrSrdPwh3Gmm8pTewC9wQY7 Thank you and bravo for your performances today! Money raised will go towards funding scholarships (such as our upcoming booster scholarship auditions), bringing in additional clinicians (like those from our Sectional Day and Clinic Concert), and more! THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MUSIC AT SCHS!!! If you would like to donate to our program, you absolutely can still do so! Checks can be made out to SCHS Music Boosters or through the booster website: click here to donate through our SCHS Music Booster's Online Store. Thank you in advance for any donation, big or small! |
