Congratulations to all our SCHS student musicians on a week of great performances last week! Both Fall Concerts and our Senior Night football game of the year were great examples of how hard work and talent combine to create special moments in our community. Thank you to all our parents and supporters for their help in making our events run smoothly and a big Bravo to all our student musicians!!! Here is this week's update:

MARCHING BAND Rehearsals Rehearsal this week will be on Monday, 10/26, in the Auditorium. Rehearsal will likely not go for the full three hours. (There will be NO morning rehearsals this week.) All flip folio music will need to be brought as we prepare for our performance for the Detroit Red Wings next week. (Please click here for our DRW Performance Timeline.) Students should arrive 15 minutes early to make sure they are ready to start promptly at our start times. MB Attendance Policy Reminder: Please note that attendance is required for all MB rehearsals and evening Band is truly one of the ultimate team activities; when one person is absent and a hole is left in their spot or their part is not performed, our show is not as effective. We at our best only when every member is present. If a student is not able to attend any rehearsal or event, advanced notice needs to be given in writing (e-mail) to Mrs. Staniszewski for it to be excused. Unexcused tardies and absences may result in the lowering of a student's grade and/or being asked to sit out from a performance. Upcoming Events

We have a number of exciting events ahead of us this week! The Concert Ensembles will each have their first performances of the year on Tuesday (Concert Band & Symphony Band) and Thursday (Wind Ensemble), and our football game season wraps up with the Marching Band as we prepare for Senior Night with a combined performance with the Falcon MB from Rochester HS and 5th grade singers from Baldwin! Please read on for more details...
CONCERT ENSEMBLES/BAND CLASSES Fall Concerts: Tuesday, October 20th (CB & SB) & Thursday, October 22nd (WE) Fall is here and as such, we are proud to present our Fall Concerts! On October 20, the Concert & Symphony Bands will perform as well as Choir’s Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorale. On October 22, Wind Ensemble will perform as well as both the Concert and Treble Choirs. These concerts will last approximately one hour and will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. All students should report to the band room in their concert attire by 6:00p.m. in order to be ready to warm up together at 6:15pm on the night of their performance. Concert attire has been assigned for the school year, and is in the band room ready for students to bring home. The items are contained in a labeled garment bag and your student will be responsible for this garment bag and its contents for the remainder of the school year (or duration of band class). Please check the back pocket of the garment bag for shirts and ties. MEN’S ATTIRE: Concert Band Men will receive the dress shirt they purchased, trousers, vest and tie. Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble Men either have shirts or will receive the shirt they purchased, tuxedo jacket & trousers, vest and tie. All men are responsible to provide their own black socks and black shoes. Please encourage your student to hang items back up after each performance to prevent wrinkling. Shirts can be laundered, but all other items are dry clean only. The cleaning fee you paid with your signed uniform contract covers end-of-year cleaning. If your student’s uniform requires cleaning in between concerts (excessive sweating, food soiling, etc) this will be at your expense. So please encourage your student to practice great care when wearing and storing their school provided attire. WOMEN’S ATTIRE: All women will receive a labeled garment bag containing a long black dress. All ladies are responsible for providing nude colored panty hose and black flat shoes. Heels (especially those over ½”) are strongly discouraged. A couple of important care facts about these dresses – NEVER USE AN IRON DIRECTLY ON THE MATERIAL and NEVER DRY CLEAN. Please ALWAYS place a cloth between the dress and the iron and use a cool iron only. A hot iron will singe the material immediately and your student will be invoiced for a new dress! Dresses can be laundered with a mild detergent on a cold water setting and hung to dry. If alterations were required for your student’s dress, an invoice will be attached to the garment bag. Please remit this invoice to the mailbox in the Band Room at your earliest convenience. If at any time during the school year your student has issues with their concert attire (loose or missing buttons, pulled seams, etc.) please contact Kristi McLaren at [email protected] Google Classroom Our last Google Classroom Assignment was due this past Friday, October 16th. If you have not yet completed it, please do so ASAP to receive full credit. (There is no penalty for lateness, only incompletion.) Chamber Music Project If you are planning on participating in one of our large chamber ensembles this year, please be sure to sign-up ASAP.
