Hawaii 2022 Trip (Re) Kick Off A meeting for our Hawaii Trip will be held on November 15th at 8pm (immediately following MB rehearsal) to help collect questions for the travel company and provide information regarding this travel opportunity! All who wish to attend are invited. We are excited to re-kick off our Hawaii trip after being postponed from last year! Any students involved in the SCHS Bands are invited to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime musical travel opportunity. We will be traveling Friday, March 25th through April 1st, 2022 (Spring Break) in order to participate in some special musical opportunities as well as experience some of the local cultures and experiences that only Hawaii can provide. Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) Large Chamber Ensembles begin rehearsing this week Our large Brass chamber ensemble will meet for the first time this week on Wednesday 11/3, 3-4pm. Large Percussion will begin Tuesday, November 9th, and meet from 2:30-3:30pm. All participants should bring $5 for the group S&E registration and turn it in to their respective coaches. Community Service Lessons Calling all HS Band Musicians! We are re-starting our Community Service Lessons Program with the Hart MS Bands! This is a great way to earn community service hours for Key Club, NHS, Scouts, as well as have fun connecting with and helping a Hart MS Band Musician. If you/your student is interested in being a HS Mentor Musician, please complete this Google Form to have your name added to our Mentor List. Please note: Adding your name and expressing your interest doesn't necessarily mean you will be contacted by a MS student to teach. But, it does mean you are willing to teach at least one student for 30 min/week, based on your and their schedule availability, should you be contacted. Students will need to arrive in uniform at 6:45pm; our performance will begin in the Main Gym at 7:30pm. Please note: this will be an indoor performance. Oakland County Health Division mandates that masks must be worn by all participants and audience members while indoors in K-12 Public School Buildings. Any student needing to secure a musician's mask and/or bell cover is invited to secure their own from a vendor of their choosing or ask Mrs. Staniszewski if assistance is needed. Jazz Band The Cougar Jazz Band is getting ready to meet live again for the first time in two years! We are getting ready for a very exciting season. As we look ahead, here is some important information: Jazz Band Retreat The Cougar Jazz Band will once again kick things off for the semester with our retreat at Embassy Suites in Troy. This year's retreat will be held Friday, January 7th (check in at 4:30pm) through Sunday, January 9th. All Cougar Jazz Band members are highly encouraged to attend! We will be working with professional jazz musicians through the weekend to help kick start our season in the best way. All clinics, meals, lodging for 2 nights and activities are included in the $180/student cost. Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony Open House The DMYSO is back to live music and would like to invite your students seeking an advanced youth ensemble experience to our open house on Saturday, November 13 at 9:30. Detroit MYS is a supplement to the school music program and provides additional guidance and challenge for the advancing music student in grades 2-12. Our two full orchestras rehearse Saturdays at Berkshire Middle School (Beverly Hills) and perform three concerts each season:
October is quickly coming to a close, and we look ahead to celebrating the accomplishments and efforts of our Cougar MB members this week with our Cougars Assemble Awards Concert on Thursday! General Announcements #SmileCranes Paper cranes, a symbol of longevity and good fortune and a favorite of Elisa's, will be placed around the school starting today to honor and support all those impacted by this week’s tragic accident. We are encouraging everyone to make their own cranes at home, snap a picture with it, and share using the hashtag #smilecranes so all those impacted can see your support and smiles from afar. These special performances are combined with our choir and orchestra programs. Students need to report in their Concert Dress to the band room at 6:30pm on their respective performance night. Performances will begin at 7:00pm and should be complete by approximately 8:30pm. Students are required to stay for the full duration of the performance to set up equipment, be ready for their time to perform, and listen to the performances of all other groups. Concert Dress was distributed in all classes last week. Please make sure your student brings it home to ensure everything fits properly and is hemmed for correct lengths prior to our performances! Senior Night Football Game: October 15th Please mark your calendars for Senior Night on Friday, October 15th, when we will honor all our seniors for our last regular season home game! Seniors and their family members will walk onto the field with their parent/s or guardian/s for name recognition and a photo opportunity. For that reason, we need to know who will be in attendance in order to provide the announcer with a list of names. If parent/s or guardian/s are not able to attend, the student will still be recognized on the field and will have a photo taken with Mrs. Staniszewski. Please complete the Google form below by Friday, October 1st to indicate who will be attending Senior Night with your student.
