Welcome to December! The Winter Recess is coming up quickly and we have a LOT of great music to share! All the details are right here in this week's update:
Marching Band We will have our final MB rehearsal on Monday, December 2nd. Rehearsal will begin at 6pm and very likely end early, but will depend on how effectively we can utilize our time together. Please click the link below for the parade timeline. Upcoming MB Events (Click here for all available event Timelines & Details) Dec 2: MB Rehearsal 6pm (Will likely end early!) Dec 8: Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade (Timeline now available!) Marching Band Uniform Turn-In: Immediately after Rochester Xmas Parade! All Cougar MB members should be prepared to turn in all parts of their uniform on Saturday, December 8th immediately following our parade performance! Be sure to have any extra clothes/layers you may need. Volunteering: We need YOU! The Marching Band season may be coming to a close, but we are already looking ahead to Band Camp 2020! Please see our Volunteering page to sign up for one of our committees! Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) 5th Grade Concert (Wind Ensemble ONLY, Friday, December 6th) All Wind Ensemble students will be excused from some of their afternoon classes on Friday, December 6th in order to perform our annual 5th Grade Concert. Wind Ensemble students are responsible for checking in with their teachers to make sure they have any work they may need to complete. More details will be provided in classes this week upon our return from the Thanksgiving Holiday. Solo & Ensemble Clinics: Tuesday, December 17th Our Solo & Ensemble Clinics will be held on Tuesday, December 17th. Sign-Ups can be found by clicking here. All Soloists and groups (not working with one of our professional coaches on a weekly basis) who will be performing at District Solo & Ensemble at Rochester HS are required to participate in this event as a part of their Chamber Music Project. Slots provided are one per EVENT, not one per person. Please have one representative from your group sign up for your full group. Student musicians are advised to arrive 10-15 min prior to their scheduled performance slot. Students are also responsible for providing the adjudicator with an original score (with measures numbered) for their performance. Sleigh Ride Play-Along The SCHS Bands would like to welcome any SCHS alumni and immediate family members of current SCHS Band students who also play instruments to join us on stage to play the Leroy Anderson holiday classic, Sleigh Ride, for our grand concert finale! This year's Winter Concert will be on Wednesday, December 18th at 7pm. If you are able to attend and would like to play with us, please RSVP by completing this form! RSVPs are needed by Monday, December 16th! Fundraising Grand Traverse Pie Fundraiser Grand Traverse Pie Company Vouchers are on sale for $17 each through 12/6. This is an important source of revenue for the program, helping us to provide clinicians and enriching experiences to enhance our music education. Chipoltle Night: December 9th Come in to the Chipotle at 2611 Rochester Road in Rochester Hills on Monday, December 9th between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Bring in this flyer, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier you’re supporting the cause to make sure that 33% of the proceeds will be donated to Stoney Creek High Music Boosters. Extra-Curricular Performance Opportunities North Oakland Concert Band Concerto Competition The seventh annual NOCB Concerto Competition auditions will be held February 20, 2020 at Lake Orion High School. The winner will receive $1,000 and will perform with the band during their spring concert at the Lake Orion High School Auditorium in Lake Orion, MI. This week, we continue working towards our Winter Concert performance in all three band classes, continuing our sectional work. All three large chamber ensembles have also had their first rehearsals, looking ahead to Solo & Ensemble in January! Be inspired by EMU faculty artists in instrument-specific clinics and performances in the afternoon. Learn tips and tricks to improve your playing, meet new friends, and have a blast at the BANDORAMA extravaganza that evening. $30 registration fee includes dinner and concert ticket. Marching Band We have two HUGE performances this week: Our Season Finale awards concert, Cougars Assemble, and we perform for our largest potential audience of the year at Little Caesar's Arena for the Detroit Red Wings game on Friday! Although we do not have school on Monday, we WILL be rehearsing Monday night to make sure we are ready for both of these events. (Although we may end early, depending on how quickly we can progress through rehearsal...) This special event will begin at 7pm in the Main Gym at SCHS. Students need to arrive to the band room in full uniform no later than 6:30pm. After the performance, all SCHS MB students and families are invited to join us in the cafeteria for a reception and to pick up any awards earned by completing this season. Cougar MB Performs at Little Caesar's Arena (November 8th) This performance will likely be for our biggest possible audience outside our local area, potentially playing for thousands! We rehearse at Berkshire Middle School (Beverly Hills) and perform three concerts each season:
Students wishing to are able to audition 11/9, with audition fees waived. We are accepting students for our second and third concert cycles.
