Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) Yearbook and Individual Composite Pictures Tuesday, December 18th: Individual Composite Portraits (Concert Dress & Marching Band Uniforms) Friday, December 21st: Yearbook Pictures (Concert Ensemble/Concert Dress Only) Students will need to make sure their have all of their appropriate uniform pieces for both of these days in order to have their pictures taken. Those students in marching band only are asked to bring their marching band uniforms for December 18th and have their pictures taken during their lunch period in order to be included on our Bi-Annual Composites. Families wishing to order prints of their student's individual portraits are encouraged to pick up one of the order envelopes in the band room to fill out and turn in on December 18th. Solo & Ensemble Clinics: Tuesday, December 18th Our annual S&E Clinics will be held on Tuesday, December 18th from 3-6pm. Students will not need to be at school for the full event time, however, each event registered for Solo & Ensemble must sign up for a 10-minute time slot to perform as a part of their Chamber Music Project requirements. Sign-ups are currently posted in the band room; please sign up for timeslot ASAP! Large Chamber Ensembles All large chamber ensembles rehearse this week, and all rehearsals are REQUIRED. All Large Chamber Ensembles will be performing at Solo & Ensemble on Saturday, January 19th, 2019.
Midterm Assignments/Projects Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble students will be composing a short piece of chamber music to be performed by Hart MS students for our Chamber Music Night in May. More information can be found by clicking here. All compositions (PDFs and Audio files) must be submitted electronically by January 23rd, 2019. Concert Band students need to perform all twelve major scales, one octave, from memory. Students may choose to perform these live or video record themselves (must be done in one take, not edited). Videos or live performances must be received by January 22nd, 2019. Disney Trip Update We continue rehearsals on Mondays, 2:45-3:45pm. It is HIGHLY recommended that students begin creating BLACK binders with plastic page protectors in which to keep music. Important Dates: Chaperone Meeting: Tuesday, December 18th, 7pm (We will be going over rooming preferences, required paperwork, and any additional questions.) Final Trip Meeting: Wednesday, January 30th, 2019
Our waitlist is officially cleared! We are looking forward to traveling with everyone to sunny Orlando this February! Extracurricular Performing Opportunities This is the inaugural year of Divergent Performing Arts and we are fielding both a percussion ensemble and winds ensemble to compete in the Winter Guard International Season. We are currently looking for mainly upper level high school students (or older) to join, but we will take a student of any skill level as long as they are dedicated and willing to learn! Any marching wind instrument is welcome, as well as synth and auxiliary percussion players. We are looking to kick off our Jazz Band season with a fun getaway! Our first ever SCHS Jazz Band Retreat will be held on the afternoon of Friday, January 11, 2019 through Sunday morning, January 13, 2019 at the Embassy Suites in Troy. The student cost of $160 includes all meals, hotel/lodging costs, clinicians, chaperones, and activities for the duration of the weekend. Please note: this retreat is not required for students looking to be in our jazz band, but will be a special weekend for us to distribute music, work with professional jazz musicians, and strengthen our ensemble skills as we look ahead to officially beginning in the second semester. These monthly meetings are held for any students who would like to participate, but are specially geared for those who are interested in serving in a leadership role within our ensembles (marching band, jazz band, concert ensembles). This year's Winter Band Concert will be particularly special because we are looking to begin a new tradition: SCHS Band Alumni are invited back to join us on stage for a special finale of Leroy Anderson's classic, Sleigh Ride! Any band alumni are invited to bring their instrument and join us on stage-- should any alumni need an instrument or would like music in advance to practice, please contact Mrs. Staniszewski. We hope you can join us for this new tradition! Blue Lake Scholarship Auditions: Friday, December 14th A representative from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp will be visiting the SCHS Band Room holding scholarship auditions for all interested students during classes on Friday, December 14th. Every student who auditions will be given a scholarship offer, and audition for a scholarship does not automatically commit you to attending the camp. Auditions involve a short excerpt of music (anything in your folders will do), along with a few scales. All students are highly encouraged to audition! It's Parade Day- students and parent marchers need to report to the SCHS Band room by 12:15pm today in order to avoid any of the traffic closures happening around the city. Students will need to be in full uniform for today's performance, but will be given a Santa hat to wear instead of their usual hat. Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) 5th Grade Concert: Friday, December 7th, 2018 Our annual 5th grade concert will be held during the school day on Friday, December 7th. This performance is for Wind Ensemble students only. Wind Ensemble students will need to bring their concert dress to school this day in order to change into their uniforms prior to the performance. They will be excused from classes (hours TBD) in order to perform. All students (even if on the waitlist at this time) are asked to come to rehearsal so we can begin preparing for a great concert in Orlando! Students who are currently on waitlist will know by December 18th whether or not they will be able to attend with us or not. If we get at least 4 additional people (student or adult) registered by December 14th, we WILL clear our waitlist!
