As we head into October, we have a busy few weeks ahead filled with performances for both the Cougar Marching Band and all our Concert Ensembles!
Concert Ensembles (CB, SB, WE) Our Fall Concerts are coming up on October 12 (Concert Band) and October 13 (Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble). Students, please consider signing up to be a HS mentor for a Hart MS Band student! Mentors will give 30 minute private lessons to MS musicians through the school year, and it's a great way to share a love of music as well as earn NHS Hours, Key Club points, community service hours for scouts, and more. To sign up, please complete this form: Community Service Lessons Mentor Form Cougar Marching Band We are excited to announce that the Cougar Marching Band will be playing at Little Caesars Arena at the invitation of the Detroit Pistons on Friday, October 28th! Come watch and support our Cougar Marching Band as they perform in the Plaza and on court before tip-off, then watch the Pistons take on the Atlanta Hawks! Everyone is invited to shoot a free throw on the court at the end of the game, and students will receive a $10 concessions credit to use at LCA after our performances are done. For every ticket sold, our SCHS Music Boosters receives $5 back; If we sell 100 tickets, the Detroit Pistons will also donate an additional $500 back to our music program! Please mark your calendars for this performance and share with other families and friends! All members of the Cougar Marching Band (Band, Guard, etc.) will be participating this this event. Students should select the $19 ticket package which includes the $10 concession credit. Friends and Family attending the performance and game should select the $25 ticket package. Extra-curricular Performance Opportunities Michigan State University Clarinet Extravaganza MSU will once again host it's Clarinet Extravaganza on Sunday October 16th, with special guest clinician Bryan Conger from Interlochen Center for the Arts. The day will include masterclasses, All State / solo and ensemble clinic, and a joint recital. Meridian Winds, our local music shop, will also have a booth and will be happy to help anyone with clarinet maintenance and minor repair needs. Extra-curricular Performance Opportunities Bowling Green State University Honors Band BGSU is pleased to announce our annual High School Honor Bands for Thursday-Saturday November 17-19, 2022. The format of the event includes three full ensembles - one smaller, highly select group and 2 larger ability-tiered groups. All groups work closely with BGSU faculty, staff, students and renowned guest clinicians. Students will arrive on Thursday November 17, rehearse over the next two days, and perform a final concert on Saturday afternoon. The cost of the clinic is $175 for students reserving a hotel room, and $110 for commuter students. The clinic fee covers all instruction, most meals, and an honor band shirt to wear for the performance. Students must first be nominated by their director before being accepted. If you/your student wishes to participate, please let Mrs. Staniszewski know by Monday, September 12th in order to complete the nomination process. All accepted students and directors will be notified via email on or before Sept. 26 of their acceptance and details on how to proceed.
