Now that we are officially a few weeks into the new school year, the time has come for our SCHS Music Department meeting! This Monday, Sept 16, 7pm in the SCHS Auditorium, our SCHS Music Boosters will host this mandatory meeting for all SCHS Music Department families as an introduction to the school year. Each family needs to have at least one parent in attendance. Please read on for details on this important event as well as the other happenings in the band room for the days to come... Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) SCHS Music Department Parent Meeting: Monday, September 16th The SCHS Music Boosters will be holding their beginning of the year meeting on Monday, September 16th from 7-8pm in the SCHS Auditorium. We will be going over a great deal of information about both the choir and band programs, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and more for the upcoming school year. All SCHS Music students are required to have at least one parent attend this meeting- thank you! Looking forward to welcoming and welcoming back all of our music program parents! Mod Pizza Night Fundraiser: Wednesday, September 18th, 4-8pm Forget cooking dinner and washing dishes; please join us for dinner at MOD Pizza (3058 S. Rochester Rd.) and 20% of your bill comes back to SCHS Band & Choir! A great night with great food and great people- be sure to bring your families and invite your friends! Required Beginning of Year Docs (Past Due): If you/your student has not yet completed our beginning of the year paperwork, it needs to be completed ASAP! (It is the first grade in our gradebook for the semester.) Music Department Registration (Past Due!) Our SCHS Music Department Online Registration needs to be completed in order to purchase/hand out uniforms. We requested that it be completed during the School Registrations but we know that many missed this opportunity. (Please Note: All Marching Band Members have already completed this process and do not need to do anything further.) For those who have not yet completed it, you can find the Music Department Registration packet by clicking here. This is MANDATORY for all SCHS musicians! Discounted tickets will also be made available as more details for this special event are confirmed. We would love to have a huge turn out for the game, so please mark your calendars and invite friends and family to come-- it's sure to be a great night of music and hockey! Extra-Curricular Performance Opportunities Oakland Area Saxophone Ensemble Auditions The Oakland Area Saxophone Ensemble (OASE) is an ensemble that meets once a week on Saturday evenings to prepare and perform multiple genres and levels of music at 3-4 concerts a year. This is their 4th year running OASE, and they are about to host another round of auditions for the fall semester. Please click here for this year's audition packet. Wayne State University Honors Band Wayne State University is pleased to invite your finest students to participate in the annual Honor Band Day which will be held on Saturday, October 5th, 2019. This daylong event will take place on the campus of Wayne State University. Your students will have many enriching experiences as they work with master conductors, attend special clinics presented by music education students and faculty from the Department of Music, and perform in a gala concert at the end of the day. There is no participation fee. Conducting the High School Honor Band will be Professor Douglas Bianchi, Director of Bands at Wayne State University. Students must e-mail Mrs. Staniszewski by Friday, September 20th if interested in participating. Selection of participants in the Honor Bands will be based on the recommendation and assessment of their band director. Directors can nominate up to 7 students comprised up of 3 woodwind students, 3 brass students, and 1 percussion student (who should be proficient on several percussion instruments.) MSBOA All-State Ensembles Auditions: October 26 & 27th, 2019 The MSBOA All-State Ensembles are comprised of selected students from across the state of Michigan. Those selected to participate in these elite ensembles will travel to Grand Rapids for the Michigan Music Conference on January 16-18, 2020 and work with exceptional conductors from across the United States in preparation for a performance on Saturday, January 18th. This year's MSBOA All-State auditions will be held on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th. To audition, students will need to submit $15 along with a completed Audition Worksheet (Page 5 of the Audition Information Packet) to Mr. Kroll/Mrs. Staniszewski by Tuesday, September 24th.
