Welcome and welcome back to a new school year! I am so excited for the wonderful moments this year is sure to hold for our bands! Here's a head start on some of the things we have going on for this year...
Concert Ensembles Each ensemble will have a virtual space through Google to submit assignments, Chamber Music Project materials, as well as a space to ask questions and have discussions. Your student's first assignment for the year is to join their respective Google Classroom(s) and complete the Chamber Music Project form online, found at the top of each classes' class page. This should have been completed last week, however, if it was not, please have your student do this ASAP! Also on our Google Classroom site, students will find our Locker Check-Out form. Students wishing to use a band locker will need to bring in their own lock and complete the form. We are also in need of mentors for our Community Service Lessons program! This annual partnership with the Hart MS provides a great service for our younger band students, as well as a great volunteer opportunity for our SCHS students needing community service hours for NHS, Key Club, etc. Sign-up to be a mentor on Google Classroom! Marching Band After a successful Arts & Apples Performance and our first home game this past week, we have another big week ahead of us this week as we anticipate another home game on Friday and our performance at the Bloomfield Hills Early Bird Invitational on Saturday! Rehearsals: Monday 9/12, 6-9pm*; Wednesday 9/14, 6:15-7:15am; Thursday, 9/15, 6:15-7:15am. *Please note, we will be voting on our camp quote for this year's shirt at Monday night's rehearsal! Performances: (Click links for each event's timeline): Home Game vs. Clarkston, Friday 9/16 Bloomfield Hills Early Bird Invitational, Saturday 9/17 MB students: We are also in need of YOUR help on Tuesday, 9/13 right after school! The SCHS teachers are learning the words to the fight song, and we are looking for as many students who are able to join us by playing the fight song in the library at 2:45pm. If you are available, please come and play! The performance should only take a few minutes. Opportunities SCHS Bands to NYC 2017! The Stoney Creek HS Band Program was selected by Manhattan Concert Productions to perform at Carnegie Hall on Monday, April 10th, 2017! This is a very prestigious opportunity for our students, as well as a great opportunity to travel to NYC and have a great time with the band! If you have not yet registered for this trip and would like to do so, please see Mrs. Staniszewski for itinerary and registration information. There is limited space still available! MSBOA All-State Auditions will be held again this fall! Auditions will be held on October 28-29th, and will consist of scales, sightreading, and these prepared etudes. Students selected for these premiere ensembles will have the opportunity to perform in Grand Rapids for the Michigan Music Conference in January along side students from across the state of Michigan! This is a significant honor and great performance opportunity; students are encouraged to audition. More information can be found posted in the band room, along with blank applications. Completed applications and the $10 audition fee are due Friday, September 16th. Oakland University will once again be holding their Honors Band this fall, on November 18-19th, 2016. Any students interested in being nominated for this opportunity need to let Mrs. Staniszewski know before September 29th, 2016. The brass faculty at Michigan State University is hosting a special day for brass students on October 22, called Top Brass. It is designed for more serious brass students wanting to learn how to play in a brass ensemble. It does require a 3-minute audition/audio file to be sent in by October 7th. Players will receive notification as soon as their audio file has been received by MSU. For more information, please see the flyer below.
