Important Parent Meeting! The SCHS Music Boosters will be holding their beginning of the year meeting on Monday, September 17th from 7-8pm in the SCHS Auditorium. We will be going over a great deal of information about both the choir and band programs, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and more for the upcoming school year. All SCHS Music students are asked to have at least one parent attend this meeting- thank you! Looking forward to welcoming and welcoming back all of our music program parents! Marching Band Pep Band (Away Games) For those interested in joining our Pep Band to play at away games, there will be a brief meeting before practice on Monday, September 10th beginning at 5pm. Anyone current marching band member interested in playing is welcome to come! Come find out how you can join this exciting new performance group who will be representing the SCHS Cougar MB out in the community! Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) Orlando Trip Meeting: September 12, 8:15PM (Immediately following Curriculum Night) The Cougar Bands will be traveling to Orlando, FL this year! All students and parents are highly encouraged and invited to come attend an informational meeting for this this trip immediately after Curriculum Night on Sept. 12, 8:15pm, in the SCHS Band Room. Those who have already registered as well as those considering joining us for this fantastic travel opportunity are all invited to attend. We will be reviewing registration information as well as announcing some trip updates-- including a new discounted chaperone rate (now $799/chaperone)! Saturday, October 20, 2018, 5-10pm Please mark your calendars for this great live concert opportunity right in our own area- we have a block of discounted tickets and would love for you to join us! Ticket orders are due on Friday, September 14th-- be sure to get them in ASAP! More information and the order form can be found here. Extra-Curricular Performance Opportunities MSBOA All-State Ensembles Auditions The MSBOA All-State Ensembles are comprised of selected students from across the state of Michigan. Those selected to participate in these elite ensembles will travel to Grand Rapids on January 24-26, 2019 and work with exceptional conductors from across the United States in preparation for a performance on Saturday, January 26th. This year's MSBOA All-State auditions will be held on Saturday, October 27th and Sunday, October 28th at Walled Lake Northern High School. To audition, students will need to submit $15 along with a completed Audition Worksheet (Page 4 of the Audition Information Packet) to Mrs. Staniszewski by Tuesday, September 25th. More information and the necessary audition excerpts can be found here: 2018-2019 MSBOA All-State Audition Information Packet 2018-2019 MSBOA Audition Excerpts & Requirements Wayne State HS Honors Band The annual Wayne State University Honor Band Day will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018. This daylong event will take place on the campus of Wayne State University. Students will have many enriching experiences as they work with master conductors, attend special clinics presented by music education students and faculty from the Department of Music, and perform in a gala concert at the end of the day. Conducting the High School Honor Band will be Professor Douglas Bianchi, Director of Bands, Wayne State University. In addition to his duties at Wayne State University, Professor Bianchi is also the conductor of the International Symphony Orchestra and of the Detroit Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. All interested students are HIGHLY encouraged participate, but nominations are limited to up to 7 students; 3 woodwind students, 3 brass students, and 1 percussion student. There is NO participation fee for this event! Interested students should let Mrs. Staniszewski know of their interest by Friday, Sept. 14th! Oakland University Honors Band: November 9-10, 2018 The Oakland University Honor Band for 2018 is looking for applicants! This year's OU Honors Band will feature Professor John LaCognata, Director of Bands, University of South Dakota, as the featured conductor, along with OU Wind and Percussion Faculty. For more information, please see the OU School of Music, Dance & Theater Website. (Please note, if selected to participate, there will be a $25 fee per student.) Those wishing to be nominated for participation should contact Mrs. Staniszewski by Friday, Sept. 14th! Jazz Band Jazz Band Retreat Dates: January 11-13, 2019 Mark your calendars!
