It may have been miserable weather, but the combined Cougar MB, alumni, and Hart 8th Gr Band still performed like champs at HOCO last Friday! We are looking forward to a few more big performances left for the season, including MSBOA MB Festival on Oct 13, our away game at Adams on Oct 14, and our Senior Night/Final home game of the season on Oct 21st. In the mean time, here's what we have to look ahead for all our bands for this week... Music Boosters We are in need of some help with the afterglows for our upcoming Fall Concerts! Please click the link here to see where we still need some assistance! Concert Ensembles Spirit wear: We have SCHS Band spirit wear for our concert ensembles! To view the offerings and place an order, please visit: scbands16.itemorder.com CODE: PPCK6. Don't delay! Orders/website close on MONDAY, October 3rd at 11:59PM. Solo & Ensemble Registration: Those students who elected to participate in Solo & Ensemble will need to make sure they turn in their registration forms and fees! (Forms can be found here.) Please turn in only ONE form and ONE payment per event. Each form and payment needs to be enclosed in a labeled envelope and submitted to Mr. DeRubeis in the band office no later than October 26th! Large Chamber Ensembles: Brass and WW ensemble music has arrived! Please see Mrs. Staniszewski to pick up your music ASAP so you can begin practicing it during our chamber music days. Also, we are in need of one representative from each large chamber group to be responsible for filling out the registration form and collecting the $7/person registration fee. If you are able to assist, please let Mrs. Staniszewski know. SCHS Bands to NYC 2017! The Stoney Creek HS Band Program was selected by Manhattan Concert Productions to perform at Carnegie Hall on Monday, April 10th, 2017! This is a very prestigious opportunity for our students, as well as a great opportunity to travel to NYC and have a great time with the band! If you have not yet registered for this trip and would like to do so, please see Mrs. Staniszewski for itinerary and registration information. There is limited space still available! Nov 11: Breaking Winds Quartet performance at Adams HS (details TBA) Dec 9: 5th Grade Concert (Wind Ensemble only, during school day) Dec 14: Winter Band Concert Marching Band This Week's Rehearsals: Monday 10/3, 6-9pm (in Aud. Parking Lot); Wednesday 10/5, 6:15-7:15am; Thursday, 10/6, 6:15-7:15am. Schedule Reminders/Updates: Please Note: Although there is no school on Monday, October 10th, there WILL still be evening MB rehearsal from 6-9pm in order to best prepare for our MB Festival performance later that week. Also looking ahead, we will be canceling a few of our morning rehearsals due to our performance schedule. The following morning rehearsals will be CANCELLED: Thurs. Oct 13, and Thurs. Oct 20. Upcoming Performances: (Click links for each event's timeline): Oct 13: MSBOA MB Festival Oct 14: Away Game at Adams HS (Performing SSB pre-game, Distorted & Eye of the Tiger at half) Oct 21: Home Game /Senior Night vs. RHS (Regular pre-game, Urban & Cheerleader at half) Nov 20*: Red Wings Performance *Please note: Bus transportation for the Red Wings is available ONLY for those students NOT attending the game after performing. Also, there will be NO truck for this performance (much like Arts & Apples). Dec 4: Rochester XMas Parade (Timeline TBD) Opportunities Spartan Marching Band Experience: The MSU Spartan Marching Band would like to invite you and your students to join us for an open rehearsal. This event will take place the afternoon of Thursday, October 6, 2016. We will host a meet and greet for students to mingle with their prospective sections before rehearsal. Students will then get to watch a regular rehearsal, followed by a question and answer session with current band members and directors. Finally, students will be invited to join members of our Honorary Band Service Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, for dinner at Brody cafeteria (please remind them to bring about $10 for the cafeteria if they choose to stay). Here they will be encouraged to ask questions relating to band, college life, or staying involved in music after high school. Please see the attached flyer for more details!
The brass faculty at Michigan State University is hosting a special day for brass students on October 22, called Top Brass. It is designed for more serious brass students wanting to learn how to play in a brass ensemble. It does require a 3-minute audition/audio file to be sent in by October 7th. Players will receive notification as soon as their audio file has been received by MSU. For more information, please see the flyer below.
