Extracurricular Opportunities Michigan Marching Band and Spirit Day 2020 The Michigan Marching Band will host a high school student game-day experience, called “Michigan Band and Spirit Day 2020.” This event will take place on September 19, 2020, at the UM vs. Arkansas State football game in the Big House. As a HS Director, I am allowed to nominate band members (including color guard) to this event where students will participate in a typical pre-game rehearsal, parade to the stadium, halftime performance, play in the stands, and play in the traditional post-game concert. All current Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen are eligible to for nomination. If you are interested in being nominated to participate in this special event, please email Mrs. Staniszewski. I must submit my nominations by April 1. Selection for participation will be determined by instrumentation and seniority. Students selected to participate will be notified by email on April 15. Please note that the Michigan Band marches with the following instruments: Piccolo, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn/Mellophone, Trombone (Tenor and Bass), Euphonium/Baritone (BC and TC), Sousaphone/Tuba, Drumline (Snare, Tenor, Bass, and Cymbals) and Flag (Color Guard). However, students are welcome to play on their current instrument. No instruments will be provided. Drum Majors are welcome to participate on their primary instrument. Students are expected to attend the rehearsal to participate in the game. To assist in preparation, below are tentative rehearsal schedules depending upon game start: 12:00 PM Game Start – MMB rehearsal will be 7:30 – 9:30 AM 3:30 PM Game Start – MMB rehearsal will be 10:00 – 12:00 PM. Because of NCAA compliance and regulations regarding targeted recruiting of high school students, each participating student (recruit) will be charged a $77 participation fee, payable by May 15, 2020. This fee covers the cost of a game ticket, t-shirt, and lunch. While we understand that this may limit participation, we must strictly enforce and follow all NCAA guidelines. Within this compliance, we unfortunately are unable to offer any assistance to financial hardship students. Tickets for family and friends to attend the football game will be available for sale. Detailed information regarding payment will be communicated with accepted students directly on April 15. Rochester Community Concert Band Seeking Musicians The RCCB has some openings in a few sections of the band for the next concert cycle. They are looking for clarinetists, bassoon, and horn players specifically, however anyone who may be interested is invited to express their interest to Mrs. Staniszewski. They rehearse on Tuesday evenings at SCHS from 7 - 9 p.m. Next concerts are Sunday, April 19th at 3 p.m, at Ferndale High School, and Tuesday, May 19th at Adams High School at 7:30 p.m. Interested students should let Mrs. Staniszewski know ASAP.
