We wrap up Festival Season with the Cougar Jazz Band looking ahead to State Jazz Festival at Bloomfield Hills HS on Thursday, March 24th. All the details are here in this week's Update: Leadership Meeting Our Social, Outreach, and Publicity Committees are off and working on some great opportunities for our band students:
Our next leadership meeting will be on Monday, April 18th from 2:30-3:30pm. All are welcome! Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) MSBOA District Band Festival Congratulations to all our SCHS Bands on their wonderful festival performances! Recordings of all groups can be found in the Documents section of our website, in the "Concert Recordings" folder. Videos can also be found on our YouTube channel. Jazz Band The Cougar Jazz Band meets on Monday night this week as well as Wednesday AM (our LAST AM rehearsal!). There is NO AM rehearsal on Thursday, as we are heading to BHHS for Jazz Festival later that afternoon. MSBOA State Jazz Festival is THIS Thursday, March 24th! Please click here for the timeline of this big performance date. Upon our return from Spring Break, the SCHS Cougar Jazz Band will be performing along side the Adams and Rochester HS Jazz Bands and with the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra in a VERY special performance at Detroit's historic Music Hall on Tuesday, April 12th! We are also thrilled to invite back Jesse Elder (Postmodern Jukebox) and our 2020 & 2021 Cougar JB alum to world premiere Jesse's big band arrangement of Pink Floyd's "Money" for this event! There is a $20/person cover charge for this performance. Student performers will not need to pay the cover fee. Alumni interested in joining us should plan on attending rehearsal on Monday, April 11 at 5pm, SCHS Band room to rehearse with Jesse prior to Tuesday's performance. Please note: Alumni joining us will be required to pay the cover fee. To RSVP for this special event, please complete this Google Form: https://forms.gle/KjKa5vXQwWxonsii8 Travel Update: Orlando/Walt Disney World for February 2023 Our next travel opportunity for the SCHS Bands has been announced: mark your calendars for February 16-21 2023, as we look to perform at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida! More details and registration information will be announced in the weeks to come. Central Michigan Brass Day Central Michigan University is hosting a Brass Day on Tuesday, April 5th featuring the Boston Brass. All high school brass players are invited to this special event that takes place in the afternoon and evening. The event is free and open to all brass players grades 9-12! PPE Usage Update With the shift in school policy regarding mask and PPE usage, band students can now continue to choose if they wish to use their musicians masks during rehearsals. Bell covers are still highly recommended for directional instruments particularly (brass; trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, etc.) If not utilized, it is advised that families/students store musicians masks and bell covers in a safe place should they ever be required again and to avoid needing to purchase them a second time.
