A happy new year to all our SCHS Band families! I hope everyone had a relaxing break. We have a lot of great music ahead for the new year!
Upcoming Week(s) Summary:
Large Chamber Ensembles All large chamber ensembles rehearse this week, and all rehearsals are REQUIRED. All Large Chamber Ensembles will be performing at Solo & Ensemble on Saturday, January 19th, 2019.
Midterm Assignments/Projects Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble students will be composing a short piece of chamber music to be performed by Hart MS students for our Chamber Music Night in May. More information can be found by clicking here. All compositions (PDFs and Audio files) must be submitted electronically by January 23rd, 2019. Concert Band students need to perform all twelve major scales, one octave, from memory. Students may choose to perform these live or video record themselves (must be done in one take, not edited). Videos or live performances must be received by January 22nd, 2019. Disney Trip Update We continue rehearsals on Mondays, 2:45-3:45pm. It is HIGHLY recommended that students begin creating BLACK binders with plastic page protectors in which to keep music. Final Trip Meeting: Wednesday, January 30th, 2019

Looking forward to a great retreat to kick off our jazz band season! Additional Opportunities OU Clarinet Solo & Ensemble Day Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 11:30 - 2:30 p.m. Free admission Register today! Clarinetists in grades 9-12 are invited to perform solo and ensemble works in preparation for Solo and Ensemble Festivals. Oakland University clarinet professor George Stoffan will offer suggestions for soloists and ensembles. Clarinet ensembles, as well as mixed ensembles, are encouraged to perform. Even if students have already performed in a Solo and Ensemble Festival, this session can help in preparation for performances at the state level. All will benefit from the opportunity to perform for all in attendance and from the feedback from Professor Stoffan. Note: Parents and Teachers are welcome to attend!
