.This week marks the beginning of second semester, and with it, we have a great number of events in the days, weeks, and months ahead! Read on for the details for this week and some of our other upcoming events.
Concert Ensembles NYC Rehearsal: Monday, January 23rd Our first rehearsal for our performance at Carnegie Hall will be this Monday, January 30, from 2:45-4:00pm. Please click here for the list of important dates for the trip, or check out the dates on our Google Calendar below! *Because this trip and our performance involves students from all three band classes, it is essential for us to hold rehearsals after-school. This enables everyone the opportunity to rehearse with one another without disrupting the learning day by pulling them out of other academic classes. These rehearsals will ensure that we have the best possible performance on one of the world’s most famous stages! Rehearsals were scheduled on Mondays, immediately after-school, in the effort to have the least amount of conflicts with other extra-curricular activities. Please plan accordingly and plan on attending all of our rehearsals. Instrument Petting Zoo: January 31st Our annual Instrument Petting Zoo for Fifth Graders is quickly approaching! This year's event will be on Tuesday, January 31st from 5-7pm in the band room. We are in need of a few high school students per instrument to help show our fifth graders how to hold different instruments and how to make their first notes. This is a great way to earn extra NHS/Key Club points! Please let Mrs. Staniszewski know if you are available. State Solo & Ensemble Info: If you are a soloist in grades 10-12 performing at State S&E, you will need to prepare a proficiency level to perform along with your solo (scales and sightreading). More information about proficiency levels and scales may be found by clicking here. Large Chamber Ensembles Please stay tuned for a rehearsal schedule- one will be announced in the next few weeks, once musical schedules have been finalized. Large Percussion Ensemble will resume rehearsals with James this Friday, February 3rd. The survey was created with the intent of making strides towards eliminating any date conflicts within our school building calendar, by request of Dr. Skedel. Because the fall sports season begins the same week we are currently scheduled for band camp, we are investigating the possibility of moving camp one week earlier. In moving camp one week earlier, we will no longer be in conflict with any building activities at SCHS. Please note: We have not yet officially moved the date for camp. Changing to an earlier week also leaves us in need of a new campsite, as Camp Nissokone is not available any earlier. If we are able to find a campsite, we will proceed with moving camp for this coming August 2017. If we are not able to find a campsite, the dates and location will remain the same for 2017 and we will seek to move for 2018. We recognize that a great number of our students and families participate in many other activities outside of SCHS, particularly Summer Music Theater. Please rest assured that every student wishing to be in the marching band will have the opportunity to do so, and we will continue to provide a memorable, musically enriching and thoroughly enjoyable camp experience for our students. To that end, we are now trying to discover what some of the potential conflicts may be and working together with those families/activities for those students to continue their participation in marching band. If you were one of the families who previously said they could not attend the earlier week, we ask that you help us continue our investigation by please sending an email to [email protected] to specify your conflict and what (if any) sort of flexibility there might be for your student to attend camp, should it be moved one week earlier. We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate date conflicts and camp locations. Band camp is one of our largest events of the year, and requires a great deal of planning, attention to detail, and man power to create the positive learning environment we need to start our season. Every effort is being made to find a new location and come to a conclusion on dates in a timely and thorough manner. As soon as conclusions have been reached and confirmed, an announcement will be made for all SCHS Band Families. Calendar Comments are closed.
