What a wonderful music-filled weekend! Congratulations to all our SCHS musicians who performed at Solo & Ensemble this past weekend! In the week ahead, we look to wrap up first semester with our final assignments of the term, we have our second Leadership Meeting on Monday afternoon, and we start counting down to Jazz Band second semester! Read on for all the details in this week’s Update:
Matching Funds We are very fortunate to have had an alumni family step forward to offer our band program the opportunity to raise funds via a matching donation of up to $2,000! To date, we have raised just over $900 toward our $2000 goal- almost half way! If you are willing to help us reach our $2,000 goal to earn the other full $2,000 donation ($4,000 total for our program!), please join us for one of our upcoming concerts and donate to our donation drum, or click here to donate through our SCHS Music Booster's Online Store. Thank you in advance for any donation, big or small! Concert Ensembles Fantastic job to all our SCHS musicians on their performance at District 4 MSBOA Solo & Ensemble today! 47 different events, 21 of them earning top ratings and move on to State S&E to be held on Saturday, March 17 right here at SCHS! BRAVO! State S&E registration is due TUESDAY! Be sure to get your forms and fees in to Mrs. Staniszewski ASAP! State S&E forms can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lK85NOtewYO6idsA-7t4QED0ycMfOQSRJuz1VFMx-WA Large Chamber Ensembles Your chamber coaches will be scheduling rehearsals with your groups in the next few weeks based on your next performances. Those groups that earned qualifying ratings at Districts will be performing again at State S&E in March. All groups will be performing again in May. As rehearsals are determined, they will be publicized here and in the band room. Chamber Compositions (WE & SB): All WE and SB students are reminded that your chamber composition assignments are due on or before January 24th. The assignment sheet for this work can be found in hard copy in the band room or by clicking here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xTBNavn-lCb00jay5EwWqYgQJEg19XEqOM6MfNIh5TU Concert Band Major Scales (Concert G, C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab) : All Concert Band students are reminded that they must perform these six major scales in one octave from memory on or before January 25th. Students may schedule a time to perform them live or may choose to video record themselves playing them in one take. Wind players’ scales performed in multiple octaves will be eligible for extra credit. Percussionists may elect to perform specific rudiments for extra credit. Please see Mrs. Staniszewski with any questions. Instrument Petting Zoo: Wednesday, January 31st: Help is needed for our annual 5th grade Instrument Petting Zoo on Wednesday, January 31 from 5-7pm in the band room! We need HS students to help show our 5th graders how to make a sound on their instrument. This is a great opportunity for Key Club/NHS members to earn points for community service and help our soon-to-be-Cougars select an instrument before 6th grade. If you are avail and interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Staniszewski.
