Congratulations to our SCHS Jazz Band students who performed today at the culmination of our first ever Jazz Band Retreat!! It was a fantastic time with lots of great music- a great precursor to getting things officially kicked off for us in second semester!

Welcome, Mr. Hallman! Beginning this week, we welcome Mr. John Hallman from Oakland University who will be spending the next few months completing his degree and student teaching with us in the band room. Please click here for his introduction letter to all our SCHS Band students & families. Solo & Ensemble Times for Saturday, February 2nd! The schedule of events for our small chambers and solo performances have been announced! Please click here for the schedule of events at Rochester HS for District Solo & Ensemble. (Please note, this is NOT for our large chamber ensembles who perform this coming Saturday!) Leadership Meeting We will have our next leadership meeting for any student interested in serving in a leadership roll this coming Monday, January 14th from 4-5pm. All students, regardless of class/grade, are invited to attend! Large Chamber Ensembles All large chamber ensembles rehearse this week, and all rehearsals are REQUIRED. All Large Chamber Ensembles will be performing at Solo & Ensemble THIS Saturday, January 19th, 2019.
Instrument Petting Zoo: Tuesday, January 22nd We are in need of student volunteers to help our incoming 6th graders "pet" some instruments at our annual Instrument Petting Zoo, this Tuesday from 5-7pm in the SCHS Band Room. If you are available please let Mrs. Staniszewski know! This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours for NHS/Key Club. Midterm Assignments/Projects Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble students will be composing a short piece of chamber music to be performed by Hart MS students for our Chamber Music Night in May. More information can be found by clicking here. All compositions (PDFs and Audio files) must be submitted electronically by January 23rd, 2019. Concert Band students need to perform all twelve major scales, one octave, from memory. Students may choose to perform these live or video record themselves (must be done in one take, not edited). Videos or live performances must be received by January 22nd, 2019. Crosstown Showdown: Friday, January 25th Attention all musicians! The Crosstown Showdown Basketball tournament is coming up and we need YOU for pep band! This annual event features the varsity boys and girls basketball teams from Stoney Creek going up against Rochester HS. The event will begin at approximately 5:15pm and go until approximately 9pm. Playing in the game will get you into the games for FREE! Jazz Band Congratulations again to all our Jazz Band students on making our first retreat a success! Rehearsals will officially begin on Wednesday, January 30th at 6:15-7:15am. We will be rehearsing Mondays, 5:30-8:30pm; and Wed/Thurs 6:15-7:15am.
