As we wrap up February and head into March, we have a LOT of events to anticipate and enjoy. Festival season is upon us! Please read this week's Update thoroughly for all the details heading into this big month:

Concert Ensembles (CB, SB, WE) Pre-Festival Concert Due to inclement weather, our Pre-Festival Concert for HMS 6th & 7th Gr and Wind Ensemble is rescheduled for Wednesday, March 1st at 7pm. Please notify Mrs. Staniszewski ASAP if you are unable to attend this rescheduled event. A BIG THANK YOU To our SCHS Music Boosters for providing funds to help us bring in clinicians to work with us in our Band Festival preparations! Thanks to your support of our SCHS Music Boosters, we have been able to work with a dozen different clinicians and coaches for both our Sectional Day on February 9th and our upcoming Pre-Festival Concerts! MSBOA District Band Festival at Clarkston HS Our festival performance times have been announced! The Concert Band will perform for District IV MSBOA Band Festival on Friday, March 10 and the Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble will perform on Saturday, March 11th. More details can be found on our timeline here. State Solo & Ensemble at SCHS on Saturday, March 18th Congratulations to all our student musicians! Any student/event earning a "I" is invited and encouraged to move on and perform at the State level MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival to be held here at Stoney Creek on Saturday, March 18th. SCHS Music Booster Scholarships Our SCHS Music Boosters are once again holding scholarship auditions for any student in grade 9-11 currently enrolled in a band, orchestra, or choir class and will be continuing in a band, orchestra, or choir class for the 2023-2024 school year. Scholarships will be held on February 28, 2023. Schedule is found posted on the inside of the door to the band room. SCHS Marching Percussion Kick-Off Calling all SCHS Percussionists! Our 23-24 kick-off meeting for marching percussion (both front ensemble and drumline) will be held Thursday, March 2nd at 2:30 in the band room. Packets for both can be found here: Frontline Packet Drumline Packet Community Service Lessons Students, please consider signing up to be a HS mentor for a Hart MS Band student! Mentors will give 30 minute private lessons to MS musicians through the school year, and it's a great way to share a love of music as well as earn NHS Hours, Key Club points, community service hours for scouts, and more. We will be looking ahead to traveling again as a band program in 2025. If you/your student are planning to participate in our SCHS Bands in 2025, we would love your ideas! Please complete this survey to provide us with your input for future trips. SCHS Bands 2025 Travel Survey Cougar Jazz Band Rehearsals for both groups will resume on Monday, February 27th! Due to rescheduled concerts, there will be no AM rehearsals this coming week for Jazz Band or Lab. Regular rehearsals will resume again on March 6th, 8th and 9th. Jazz Band & Jazz Lab Syllabus Jazz Band spirit wear is now available for purchase! Please click here for more details and to view our timeline. SCHS Music Boosters State Solo & Ensemble is coming up on Saturday, March 18th! We are very excited to be hosting State Solo & Ensemble for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association this year! This prestigious event hosts student musicians from over 30 area high schools who earned top ratings at the District S&E events earlier in the year, and who may move on to receive top honors and scholarships from MSBOA. We have a tradition of hosting this event at Stoney annually, and while we haven't been able to host since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic, we are very excited that this event will be back in person at Stoney Creek HS again for the coming year. Because of the size and breadth of this event, all SCHS Band and Orchestra parents and students (whether or not they are performing) need to volunteer for this event to be a successful one. This has been a point of pride in our music program for many, many years and as a result, many MSBOA judges request to come to SCHS for the wonderful experiences they've had here in the past for this event. All students are welcome, and those seeking a future leadership role are highly encouraged. Each committee will be looking ahead to the spring and helping to plan for the end of the year and into next year. Extracurricular Opportunities Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the 2022-2023 Young Artist Competition to be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The winner(s) will receive the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra the evening of May 5, 2023 and an award of $500. Interlochen Arts Camp are also providing various scholarships for all participants. The competition is open to band or orchestral applicants between the ages of 12-18 years. Pianists, vocalists or previous YAC winners are not eligible at this time. For more information and to register for the competition, please click here. University of Michigan Youth Ensembles 2023-2024 Auditions Greetings from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater & Dance! We are excited to announce applications for the 2023-2024 Michigan Youth Ensemble Season are now available! Please visit the Michigan Youth Ensembles Website for information on application / audition requirements.
