We have turned the corner into December and heading toward some great performances later this month! All the details are right here in this week's Update:
Music Booster Fundraising Update Attention SAF families, Due to various reasons, the Music Boosters has decided to pause the current Student Assistance Fund program on December 22, 2023. Please know that any funds your student has accumulated up until that point will not be removed. We realize that this is a prime time to order Raise Right cards, so please be sure to order before then. We hope to bring you an updated and more user friendly version of SAF in the new year. Concert Ensembles (CB, SB, WE) 5th Grade Concert (WE ONLY): Tuesday, December 5th The Wind Ensemble will be performing along side the Orchestra and Choir during the school day on Tuesday, December 5th for the 5th grade students from North Hill, McGreggor, Baldwin, and Hugger. All Wind Ensemble students are excused from their 4-6th hours in order to perform on this day. Wind Ensemble members need to bring their Concert Blacks for this performance. This performance is not open to the public. Large Brass and Percussion Ensembles Students are responsible for attending all rehearsals or may be released from performing with the group. Please notify Mrs. Staniszewski and the coach for each large ensemble of any unavoidable conflicts that may arise.
Winter Concert: December 19, 2023 Our SCHS Bands Winter Concert is coming up on Tuesday, December 19th. Students will need to arrive at 5:30pm for a combined rehearsal/set the stage prior to our concert beginning at 7:00pm. We will also have an afterglow immediately following our Winter Concert performance. Each band family is asked to bring one nut-free treat to share for this event. Treats can be dropped off in the Auditorium Lobby prior to students needing to report for our rehearsal at 5:30pm. We would love to have YOU join us on stage for our annual Sleigh Ride Winter Concert closer! If you play an instrument, or even have a set of bells to jingle on stage, please consider joining us for this festive closing to our performance. Any interested alumni, parents, or family members are welcome to join us. Please complete this RSVP to save your spot, get music/instruments, and sign up for email updates. Chamber Music Composition Assignment All Concert Ensemble students were assigned our annual Composition assignment in Google Classroom earlier this month. These compositions will be passed along to our Middle School Band friends to be performed in May at our Chamber Music Night. First drafts are due Thursday, December 21st. Composition Assignment Guideline & Deadline Reference Sheet Cougar Jazz Band The Cougar Jazz Band begins our regular 5-8pm rehearsals on Monday, December 11th. For more information including our tentative performance calendar, please review our syllabus for this year's Jazz Band by clicking here. (Dates tentative, subject to shift until confirmed.) Our Jazz Retreat will be held on February 9-11, 2024. All Jazz Band students are highly encouraged to attend! We will be at the Embassy Suites in Troy again for a great weekend of clinics, music, and fun. More information and the registration packet can be found here. Our Jazz Band Spritwear store has been extended! Orders are being taken now through December 7th. Delivery will be around the first week of January, upon our return from Winter Break. Please place your orders through our online store here. Cougar Marching Band Marching Band Uniform Turn-In/Collection Marching Band uniforms are due back on Monday, December 4th! (We do not have school this day, but uniforms are due back in order to get them out to be dry cleaned and stored for the coming year.) All uniform parts must be turned in on this date. Fees will be collected for any parts not turned in. More details will be announced as they are confirmed. Turn In will be scheduled alphabetically by last name: A-G: 5:30-6:15pm H-P: 6:15-7:30pm R-Z: 7:30-8:30pm Student Leadership Meetings Our next Student Leadership meeting will be on Monday, December 11th from 4-5pm. Leadership Meetings dates for the rest of this year will be: January 22nd (4:00pm), March 11th (4:00pm), April 8th (2:30pm), May 6th (4:00pm), and June 3rd (2:30pm). Students, please mark your calendars- we'd love to have your voice in the meetings! Extra-Curricular Opportunities PTSA Reflections Competition This year's theme is "I am Hopeful Because...". Students can submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts. Entry forms along with program guidelines are available in the Main Office from Mrs. Parsons or on the PTSA website. Any students with questions can email Mrs. Haan or see Mrs. Parsons in the Main Office. The Reflections program is free and open to all Stoney students. Entries will be accepted until Monday, November 13. Social Studies Olympiad: Song Writing Stoney Creek High School will be competing in the Social Studies Olympiad this year, and one of the events is to create an original song! Scholarship Opportunity: Tuesday Musicale The Tuesday Musicale of Greater Pontiac, Michigan is hosting auditions for scholarships to student musicians! This scholarship opportunity is open to all High School Seniors and University Musicians/Instrumentalists. All Applications must be received by Dec.15, 2023 Only the first eight applications which have been received on time will be accepted.
