December is here, and with it, TONS of great music to and events to anticipate! Here is the latest on what's happening in the band room...
Matching Funds We are very fortunate to have had an alumni family step forward to offer our band program the opportunity to raise funds via a matching donation of up to $2,000! If you are willing to help us reach our $2,000 goal to earn the other full $2,000 donation ($4,000 total for our program!), please join us for one of our upcoming concerts and donate to our donation drum, or click here to donate through our SCHS Music Booster's Online Store. Thank you in advance for any donation, big or small! Concert Ensembles 5th Grade Concert (Wind Ensemble Only): Friday, December 8th On Friday, December 8th, all Wind Ensemble students will be excused from 4th-6th hours in order to perform for our annual 5th Grade Concert. Wind Ensemble students will need to bring their concert dress to school that day in order to change into it prior to our performance. Students are also still expected to make up any missed work from being excused to perform for this upcoming afternoon performance. Winter Concert: Wednesday, December 13th Our Winter Band Concert is coming up on Wednesday, December 13th. Students will need to report to the Auditorium at 5pm for a dress rehearsal of our combined selection. The concert will begin at 7pm, and feature all three of our Band classes, as well as selected chamber ensembles and our combined Band finale with special guest conductor, Dr. Skedel! We are in need of interludes for this upcoming Winter Concert! With so much great chamber music happening, I hope many students/groups might be interested in showcasing their work for our Winter Concert. If interested, please see Mrs. Staniszewski! Yearbook Photos: Friday, December 15th Mrs. Steen will be coming in to take group photos for the yearbook on Friday, December 15th. Please remember to bring in your concert dress/uniform on this day! Solo & Ensemble Clinics: Tuesday, December 19th Our annual Solo & Ensemble Clinics are coming up on Tuesday, December 19th. All events participating in Solo & Ensemble (with the exception of those working with hired coaches) are required to sign up for one of the 10 minute performance/ clinic slots offered from 3-6pm. Sign-ups are currently available in the band room- Please sign up as soon as you are able! Large Chamber Ensembles Our large chamber ensembles rehearsal schedules are set and posted on our Google Calendar! If you have any questions about which group you have been assigned, please ask your respective group director. Please note: your attendance at these rehearsals are part of your chamber music project grade and are required. If you need to be absent, you must notify your director in advance (less than 24 hours notice is not acceptable), and all music department attendance policies apply. Students attending the workshops are not required to audition for drum major or section leader, however, participation in these workshops will be taken into account for Drum Major and Section Leader auditions in the spring. Any student wishing to participate is asked to begin by obtaining a copy of the book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey.
