It's our last Weekly Update of the calendar year! We have a lot to look ahead to in 2023-- here's all the details as we wrap up 2022 and look ahead to the new year:

Community Service Lessons Students, please consider signing up to be a HS mentor for a Hart MS Band student! Mentors will give 30 minute private lessons to MS musicians through the school year, and it's a great way to share a love of music as well as earn NHS Hours, Key Club points, community service hours for scouts, and more. To sign up, please complete this form: Community Service Lessons Mentor Form SCHS Bands to Orlando Our official pre-trip meeting for all travelers is on Monday, January 30th at 7pm. (Chaperones will meet at 6:00pm, prior to the meeting's start.) All students traveling are required to attend this meeting along with a parent representative. Cougar Marching Band At this point, ALL Marching Band Uniforms and Instruments are DUE! To aid in our Uniform Collection, please print and return this form along with your uniform if you haven't already done so. Cougar Jazz Band Our annual Jazz Band Retreat is coming up on January 27-29th at Embassy Suites in Troy. The cost for the retreat will remain the same at $180 and includes all lodging, food, and clinicians/activities. Checks must be made out to SCHS Music Boosters. Payment is due no later than Dec 21st. To Register for this event, students will need to complete two documents: Jazz Band Retreat Registration Overnight Code of Conduct All Jazz Students need to complete this form prior to our season's start: Jazz Band Kick-Off Form Students are welcome to participate in both Jazz Band and Lab, keeping in mind that you are required to attend all rehearsals and performances for each ensemble! Our season for both Jazz Lab and Jazz Band will kick off with our retreat on January 27-29th, and our first rehearsals will be Wed (Lab) & Thurs (Band), February 1 & 2 at 6:20am. Fundraisers RaiseRight card program This is our primary source of SAF fundraising this year! Overall, this is a program where we get a percentage back from any gift cards purchased. No extra fees. You can buy physical gift cards and use as gifts. Perfect for the holidays! Or you can buy reloadable cards or e-cards that you can use yourself at stores you normally buy from anyway. Their biggest discount days are called Raise Days and they are Thursday and Friday of this week. So register asap to take advantage of these specials. Student Leadership Meetings Students, please mark your calendars- we'd love to have your voice in the meetings! All are welcome, and those seeking a leadership role are very highly encouraged. Upcoming Leadership Meeting Dates: February 6th (4:00pm) March 6th (4:00pm) April 10th (2:30pm) May 8th (2:30pm) June 5th (2:30pm). Extracurricular Opportunities Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the 2022-2023 Young Artist Competition to be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The winner(s) will receive the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra the evening of May 5, 2023 and an award of $500. Interlochen Arts Camp are also providing various scholarships for all participants. The competition is open to band or orchestral applicants between the ages of 12-18 years. Pianists, vocalists or previous YAC winners are not eligible at this time. For more information and to register for the competition, please click here. Scholarship Opportunities for Graduating Seniors The George Jonte-Crane Excellence in Music Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship that will support a student who helps to realize George’s legacy and PRISM’s mission: to change lives one note at a time. Any graduating seniors who have been active in the performing arts (choir, theatre, band, etc.) are welcome to apply. Priority consideration is given to students who plan to pursue a degree in the performing arts, but all students with a background in performing arts who attend a high school in Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb counties are eligible to apply. Lawrence Tech Marching Band Scholarships Graduating Seniors who attend Lawrence Tech and become a band member are eligible to earn: · $6,500 BAND SCHOLARSHIP · PRIORITY CLASS REGISTRATION · EARLY/LATE MOVE-IN AND OUT · BAND SWAG AND MORE · An opportunity to be a part of the LTU LEGACY! *Students do not have to be a music major or minor to be eligible for scholarships.
