Congratulations to all our SCHS Bands on a fantastic Winter Concert this past week! What a joy it was to come back to the podium to make music with you all once again. Thank you for sharing your gifts of musicianship and humanity, and here's to our continued quest to #cultivatepride through artistry in the new year!
I hope everyone has a joyful and rejuvinating Winter Break ahead of them, because we have a lot we can look forward to in 2017! Here we go, into our last Weekly Update for 2016...
Concert Ensembles Looking ahead to January, we begin to shift our focus from large ensembles to chamber music... Large Chamber Ensembles: Large brass and woodwind groups will be rehearsing this Monday and Tuesday. Large Percussion Ensemble rehearsals will resume on Friday, January 6th. A reminder for all students who signed up for Large Chamber Ensembles: We will need to take advantage of every minute of these rehearsals to ensure a fulfilling performance experience at District S&E Festival. Please make every effort to attend every rehearsal! If you do not attend the rehearsals*, you are failing to uphold the commitment you made and will be automatically switched to the portfolio track for your Chamber Music Project. *This pertains to all large chamber ensemble participants. Large Percussion Ensemble students should know that James is taking attendance at each rehearsal and has been updating me on who is/is not there. If you miss rehearsals, you are subject to these consequences. Solo & Ensemble Clinics: Thursday, January 5th, 2017 All students who are attending Solo & Ensemble as a part of their Chamber Music Project are required to particupate in our S&E Clinics on Thursday, 1/5. (This is our second day back from Winter Break!) Each event going to S&E on January 13th/14th needs to sign up for a 10 minute slot. Sign-ups are posted in the band room. Be sure to sign up for your times prior to leaving for Winter Break! Some reminders about S&E rules to double check prior to the clinics include:
District 4 MSBOA Solo & Ensemble: Friday and Saturday, January 13-14, 2017 Solo & Ensemble is quickly approaching! Please note, this year's festival will be at Brighton HS, and not Hartland HS, as it has been in past years. The schedule for S&E events can be found below: Friday, January 13, 2017 Saturday, January 14, 2017 NYC Trip Before we know it, we will be packing and performing at Carnegie Hall! We will be having a trip meeting on Monday, January 23rd to review details for the trip as well as the upcoming rehearsal calender. Please click here for the list of important dates for the trip, or check out the dates on our Google Calendar below, beginning January 2017! *Because this trip and our performance involves students from all three band classes, it is essential for us to hold rehearsals after-school. This enables everyone the opportunity to rehearse with one another without disrupting the learning day by pulling them out of other academic classes. These rehearsals will ensure that we have the best possible performance on one of the world’s most famous stages! Rehearsals were scheduled on Mondays, immediately after-school, in the effort to have the least amount of conflicts with other extra-curricular activities. Please plan accordingly and plan on attending all of our rehearsals. Upcoming Performances/Events: Jan 5th, 2017: S&E Clinics, 3-6pm, SCHS Jan 13-14: District 4 MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival at Brighton HS Jan 23: NYC Trip Meeting January 25-27: Midterm Exams January 30: Start of second semester (Jazz Band meets 5-8pm) January 31: Instrument Petting Zoo 5-7pm (Student musicians needed!)
