SCHS Music Boosters We have our last Music Booster meeting of 2022 this week on Monday, December 12th at 7pm in room E131. Zoom link is available on request. Students need to arrive at 5:30pm for a combined rehearsal/set the stage prior to our concert beginning at 7:00pm. The SCHS Music Boosters are pleased to announce that we will have our ever popular “Afterglow” celebration following our winter concert on Thursday, December 15. The “Afterglow” is a dessert celebration in the auditorium lobby for students and guests to enjoy. In order to make our “Afterglow” a success, we ask that every band student/family bring in one tray of a NUT FREE dessert or goodie. These items can be either homemade or store bought. Examples would be cookies, brownies, donuts, cupcakes, cheese and cracker tray, fruit or veggie tray, etc. Please drop off your item in the auditorium lobby no later than 6pm December 15. If you play an instrument, or even have a set of bells to jingle on stage, please consider joining us for this festive closing to our Winter Concert. Band Composite Pictures: Friday, December 16th The SCHS Bands, both Concert and Marching, will have our Band Portraits taken on Friday, December 16th. Students will need all their uniforms that day, Concert Blacks and Marching, in order to have their portraits taken for our composites. Marching students should also plan on turning in their marching uniforms immediately after their portraits are taken on this day. Individual students/families will also be able to order picture packages of their own portraits, as well as prints of our large composites. If you would like to purchase photos of your student in different uniforms, please provide an order form and separate payment for each uniform for which they are photographed. Likewise, if they would like to do a sibling or buddy photo, a separate order form and payment must be presented for that setting. Sibling and buddy photos can be taken at any time during the scheduled windows that both/all students are available. Please do not sit for sibling or buddy portraits unless at least one person is purchasing prints of the setting. Mentors will give 30 minute private lessons to MS musicians through the school year, and it's a great way to share a love of music as well as earn NHS Hours, Key Club points, community service hours for scouts, and more. To sign up, please complete this form: Community Service Lessons Mentor Form SCHS Bands to Orlando Our trip is coming up in just a few months, and the time has come for students to specify who they would like to room with over the course of our visit! Students will be placed in groups of 4, and may request up to 3 additional people to be grouped with in their rooms. Please click here for more information and to submit your roommate request. Our official pre-trip meeting for all travelers is on Monday, January 30th at 7pm. (Chaperones will meet at 6:00pm, prior to the meeting's start.) All students traveling are required to attend this meeting along with a parent representative. Please mark your calendars now to attend this meeting in person! Cougar Marching Band Our last commitment for the year are our Composite Portrait Photos on Friday, Dec 16: Composite Portrait Photos (Click for Timeline). All CMB members must attend at their assigned time to have their portraits taken and turn in their uniforms immediately after. To aid in our Uniform Collection, please print and return this form along with your uniform on December 16, 2022. The cost for the retreat will remain the same at $180 and includes all lodging, food, and clinicians/activities. Checks must be made out to SCHS Music Boosters. Payment is due no later than Dec 21st. To Register for this event, students will need to complete two documents: Jazz Band Retreat Registration Overnight Code of Conduct All Jazz Students need to complete this form prior to our season's start: Jazz Band Kick-Off Form Our season for both Jazz Lab and Jazz Band will kick off with our retreat on January 27-29th, and our first rehearsals will be Wed (Lab) & Thurs (Band), February 1 & 2 at 6:20am. If you're looking to be in our rhythm section (piano, percussion, guitar, or bass) and just can't wait to jam, there's a great opportunity coming up for you! The 2nd Annual 2022 Western Michigan University Jazz Rhythm Section Day will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10th, 9am-3pm. This FREE event is a great opportunity for guitar, piano, bass and drums students to join other students from around the state to explore rhythm section concepts with the WMU jazz faculty. We appreciate all your support! Five Below shopping day – 10% of sales go to our organization! Simply print out the attached flyer (Click for link) and bring to the Five Below on Rochester Road THIS WEEK! 12/9 – 12/16 SCHS Music Boosters get 10% of all purchases made on these dates, by simply bringing in the flyer. Get your stocking stuffers while helping to support our music programs! Please share the flyer with family and friends to increase our sales! RaiseRight card program This is our primary source of SAF fundraising this year! Overall, this is a program where we get a percentage back from any gift cards purchased. No extra fees. Student Leadership Meetings Students, please mark your calendars- we'd love to have your voice in the meetings! All are welcome, and those seeking a leadership role are very highly encouraged. Extracurricular Opportunities Central Michigan University Double Reed Day Calling all Double Reed (oboe and bassoon) players! CMU's Double Reed day will be hosted at Clarkston HS on December 16th from 8am-2pm. Please see this flyer for more information! Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the 2022-2023 Young Artist Competition to be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The winner(s) will receive the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra the evening of May 5, 2023 and an award of $500. Interlochen Arts Camp are also providing various scholarships for all participants. The competition is open to band or orchestral applicants between the ages of 12-18 years.
