Calendar Update: Graduation at DTE Energy Stage on Saturday, June 12th Rochester Community Schools is hosting commencement exercises and graduation for Stoney Creek High School at DTE Energy Stage on Saturday, June 12th. Per Stoney Creek tradition, the SCHS Bands and Choirs will also be featured during the Graduation Ceremonies. Please mark your family calendars for this important performance! More details pertaining to specific schedule and times will be announced as they are confirmed. SCHS Concert Ensembles (Concert, Symphony, Wind) **PLEASE BRING CLOTHESPINS TO CLASSES FROM NOW ON!** Should weather permit, we will look to go outside to play in classes whenever possible. To aid in this effort, students are asked to please bring clothespins/clips to help secure their sheet music to music stands while playing outdoors. Pops Livestream: Our livestream Pops Concerts will be this week in all band classes! Students will need to dress once again in Professional Concert Blacks for this performance. STUDENTS: be sure to bring or wear your Concert Blacks for class on the day of our livestreams. (Representatives from the yearbook will be taking pictures of this performance as well for this year's Yearbook as well.) Wind Ensemble 2021-22 Auditions Auditions for Wind Ensemble in the 2021-22 school year will be held the week of April 26-30, 2021. Interested students should prepare a solo/piece of their choosing that demonstrates their best playing, major and melodic minor scales (in as many octaves as possible), and be prepared for sight-reading during their audition. Scholarship Opportunities from SCHS Music Boosters The SCHS Music Boosters have scholarship monies available for students to use for private music lessons or camps. Any current SCHS Band student continuing in band for the coming school year is eligible for these scholarships. Spring Concert/Awards at Rochester Park Our Spring Concert & Awards will be presented at the Rochester Municipal Park Band Shell on May 5, 2021 (Rain date: May 6th, 2021). In preparation, students are asked to review our awards list to be sure they are receiving the correct honors for this year. (List will be cross checked to verify accuracy.) Cougar MB at Opening Day for USPBL: Friday, May 28th We will be performing highlights from Cougars With Everybody as well as some fan favorites, helping to kick off the new season for the USPBL. We will also be welcoming any 8th graders from the Hart MS Bands to join us for this fun event. Free Outdoor Live Music Performances at Oakland University After a year of restricted and virtual events, Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance is thrilled to unveil its new outdoor stage for OU Outside the Box, a performing arts festival that will feature performances by SMTD students, artists-in-residents and faculty in a safe, outdoor setting on the OU campus. All events, including free, require an advanced ticket purchase/reservation at etix.com. Tickets may be printed at home or presented on mobile devices at the door. Private Lessons for All Ages in All Instruments and Voice Types New students can take 5 lessons in the first 5 weeks of the winter semester for $30 off through the Oakland University Community Music School! For questions and to sign up, email [email protected]. Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Scholarship Opportunities This summer, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp will be back! Following the State's mandated safety protocols, a quality arts experience will be available students interested in making music with us. Fortunately, because our teaching facilities are mostly open-air, we have a ready-made safe environment. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship to BLFAC, online applications are available! Applying for a scholarship does not make you obligated to attend; rather, you will be presented with a scholarship offer and can chose to accept or pass on the opportunity.
