We are nearing the end of our school year and have a LOT of events happening in the band room at Stoney! Everything from celebrating the end of this school year with things like our Spring Concert and Band Awards Banquet to preparations for the coming school year. Band Awards Banquet Please join us for the end of year Band Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 12. This is a dressed up occasion and we will be returning to Addison Oaks for a wonderful evening of music and awards! Please don't forget to fill out the attached form and send in a check/cash to the Band Room box NLT Registration is due April 30th. We will have some wonderful food along with all our annual awards to honor these students and their accomplishments this year, including: Underclassmen will receive their varsity letters for completing 3 semesters of band, all yearly honors will be distributed, and special tribute to our Seniors receiving their graduation honors cords for music. Can't wait to see you there! Link to Band Banquet Registration Form Jazz Band Congratulations to the Cougar Jazz Band on your performance at Music Hall last week! We will take the next couple weeks off for the Musical before resuming Monday evening rehearsals on Monday, May 2nd from 5-8pm. Upcoming performances include:

Concert Ensembles Make sure your calendars are marked-- Our Spring Concert is coming up on Wednesday, May 4th! 2022-2023 Wind Ensemble Auditions Those interested in auditioning for the 2022-2023 Wind Ensemble will have the opportunity to do so during classes on Tuesday, April 26th and Thursday, April 28th. Interested auditionees will need to prepare a solo that demonstrates their best playing along with major and melodic minor scales from memory (in as many octaves as comfortably possible) and be prepared to sightread. For those not currently in a Concert Ensemble course, after school auditions are available-- Please contact Mrs. Staniszewski to schedule, or should any questions arise. Good luck! Cougar Marching Band Percussion Workshops Those interested in joining the percussion section (front ensemble or drumline) for the Cougar Marching Band are invited to attend our percussion workshops on Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 on April 14, 21, 28, and May 5. Participating students are asked to bring a drum pad and sticks to the first date on April 14th. ALL percussionists looking to play with the Cougar Marching Band in the fall are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED and should plan to attend these workshops. Drumline auditions will be held as a part of these workshop dates. Drum Major Workshops Those interested in becoming a Drum Major for the Cougar Marching Band are invited to attend Drum Major Workshops on April 18, 19, and/or 27th in the band room at 3:30pm. Everyone is welcome to come and see what it's like to be a Drum Major, learn about conducting, the position, and much more. All prospective DMs are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to attend. Section Leader, Captain, and Drum Major Interviews/Auditions Those interested in joining the leadership team (Drum Majors, Captains, and Section Leaders) for the Fall 2022 Cougar Marching Band will need to complete an application and interview/audition process. Drum Majors will be holding workshops for those interested in applying for Drum Major positions in the coming weeks. Interviews for interested candidates will be held Monday, May 2 and 9, 2:30-5:00pm. Please mark your calendars! CMB Leadership Handbook (Candidates should review prior to applying.) Applications/Essay Prompt for CMB Leadership Positions (Hard copy must be submitted at least 24 Hrs prior to scheduled interview.) Sign-Up for Interview Times Here Marching Band Registration Be on the lookout for online marching band registration (school year 2022-2023). It should be coming out mid May. As a save the date, we will be having uniform fitting day in the evening of May 23rd. Our shoe guys will even be there to include many others. Mini Band Camp Mini Marching Band Camp will be June 8-10, immediately after school. A parent meeting is tentatively planned for June 9th in the evening (time: TBD). The first marching band performance will be on Friday, June 10th, after mini-camp at Jimmy John Field. Tickets will be on sale at registration. Parent Support for Next Year's Marching Band A successful season for next year starts today! Help is needed to fill some critical positions looking ahead for Fall 2022. Music Boosters Announcements Spring Concert - May 4th The boosters are selling shout out for Juniors, Sophomore and Freshman for $10. The ads are due by April 22nd. Please see flyer attached. We would also like to honor our Seniors. Please send in a picture and answers to questions to the 3 questions listed on flyer. Don't forget...due April 22nd. See flyer for details. Band Banquet - May 12th Tickets went on sale last week for the end of year band banquet. This is a DON'T MISS event held at Addison Oaks. Families are also welcome to attend. Students will be receiving their end of year awards. The food is always outstanding! Tickets can be purchased via cash, check or credit card ( http://stoney-creek-high-school-music-boosters.square.site/ ). Please fill out the attached flyer. It is always a memorable event. Tickets must be purchased by April 30th since we have to give Addison Oaks our exact numbers in advance. Pictures Needed: - April 30th. We are looking for some pictures of your time in band from your past year, or two, three or four. These are needed for a special thing we are doing for the banquet. Please send your pictures to [email protected]. NLT April 30th. But, the earlier the better. Old Band Items (This is for Seniors or Children who have grown a lot): Do you have an old marching band polo, shoes, spirit wear, etc you no longer want, but someone else might be able to use? Starting Monday, April 18th there will be a box in the band room for used band/marching band items that could be used by new/returning marching band members. This is a way to try to defray some of the costs. Extra Music Opportunities Detroit Metropolitan Youth Symphony Seeking Musicians The DMYS is holding open auditions for students seeking an advanced youth ensemble experience. Detroit MYS is a supplement to the school music program and provides additional guidance and challenge for the advancing music student in grades 2-12. Our exceptional orchestra was recently recognized nationally in the American Prize competition! All groups rehearse Saturday mornings at Berkshire Middle School and perform three concerts each season, including:
Travel Update: Orlando/Walt Disney World for February 2023 Our next travel opportunity for the SCHS Bands has been announced: mark your calendars for February 16-21 2023, as we look to perform at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida!
