Many of you may have noticed a new video trend happening online in order to raise awareness of ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. The video, called the "Ice Bucket Challenge," requires those being challenged to create a video of themselves being doused by a bucket of ice cold water to "wake up" and raise awareness of this medical condition. The video is then posted online and those who complete the challenge then pass it along, challenging others to do the same. Junior Drum Major, Matt Vervinck, having just completed his own video, recently posed the challenge to the rest of the SCHS Marching Band. If you are interested in helping us participate and raise awareness, we could certainly use your help to make our SCHS MB Ice Bucket Challenge Video a reality!
Those interested in completing the Ice Bucket Challenge along with other members of the SCHS MB should plan on getting wet at the end of Wednesday night's rehearsal, August 20th. Participating in this challenge/video is COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY. If you would like to be in the video, be sure to wear dark clothing and bring a towel for yourself for afterward. Also, make sure you do not have anything on your person that you would not want to get wet (i.e. jewelry, watches, electronics in pockets, etc.) If you have any spare change, a dollar, etc. that you might be willing to donate as well, we will pool all the donations and make a collective gift from the SCHS Marching Band. We will also need a number of parents/alumni who might be willing to help dump the ice water onto our SCHS MB participating members. If there are any parents/friends/family members who might be willing to help fill buckets/dump water, please let me know. We will look to use either the stadium stands/field or the stands/field on the grass field so that those who are dumping the water will have plenty of height. Rehearsal will end at 9pm, so volunteers for water dumping should arrive around 8:45pm. Upon completion, the video will be posted on our band Facebook group page, along with the challenge to others. Again, participating in this is completely voluntary and is all done in the name of fun while raising awareness for a great cause. Comments are closed.
