Beginning the week of November 27, Large Brass will be shifting to Tuesday afternoons for rehearsals. Large Percussion will remain on Thursdays. Students are responsible for attending all rehearsals or may be released from performing with the group. Winter Concert: December 19, 2023 Our SCHS Bands Winter Concert is coming up on Tuesday, December 19th. Students will need to arrive at 5:30pm for a combined rehearsal/set the stage prior to our concert beginning at 7:00pm. We would love to have YOU join us on stage for our annual Sleigh Ride Winter Concert closer! If you play an instrument, or even have a set of bells to jingle on stage, please consider joining us for this festive closing to our performance. Students can submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts. Solo & Ensemble Registration If you/your student has selected to participate in Solo & Ensemble for their chamber project, they will need to complete one registration form per event. (Only one form per event please, not one form per student!) Complete payment for each event should also accompany each completed form. There will also be advanced Jazz Combo opportunities in addition to our standard Big Band jazz ensemble. Please plan accordingly-- more information, including a syllabus with performance dates, will be coming soon via Student/ParentVUE. If you/your student would like to be in Jazz Band this year, be sure to talk to your/student's counselor and check to see if Jazz Band is listed on your/student's course schedule for second semester! Students selected to participate in the MSBOA All-State Ensembles will rehearse and perform in Grand Rapids, MI in January 2024 at the Michigan Music Conference. This is an amazing ensemble experience and all motivated students are highly encouraged to audition! The Cougar MB looks ahead to our combined RCS Marching Band Festival on Saturday, September 23rd this week, while the concert ensembles continue preparing for fall concerts in October and Jazz Band looks ahead to it's new fall start in November. Our first leadership meeting is this Monday, September 18th (all students welcome!) and all students are encouraged to register for MSBOA All-State Auditions (deadline September 26th). This exciting event day brings high school marching bands from across Michigan to Mount Pleasant each year so HS marching musicians & guard members can get an idea of what it's like to march at the collegiate level. Cougar MB members who attend will have the opportunity to rehearse with the CMU Chippewa Marching Band, have a tailgate lunch provided by the SCHS Music Boosters, receive a ticket for the EMU vs. CMU football game, and perform at half time along with the CMU MB and all the other attending HS marching bands. Guard members and musicians are all invited to participate! The date of this event is Saturday, September 30th. The timeline for this event is yet to be confirmed, as NCAA/ESPN has not yet determined the game start time. (We should have a confirmed scheduled to distribute approximately 10-14 days prior.) The cost per student to attend this event is $20, which will cover transportation, lunch, materials, and ticket to the game. We are asking all MB Students/Families to please complete this RSVP form ASAP so that transportation and food arrangements can be made in a timely manner prior to this event.
