One of the greatest gifts we have as musicians is to share our efforts with others; to perform. In performing, our music takes on an enhanced meaning as we are able to connect with those who listen. Those connections are further enhanced through the type of music we are playing as well; the connections made in a large ensemble are very different from those made when we are a part of a small ensemble or performing as a soloist. That isn't to say that one sort of ensemble is better than the other; on the contrary, both performing in a large ensemble and as a member of a small chamber ensemble have their unique, meaningful experiences. It is in that spirit, growing from both large and small ensemble experiences, that students in the SCHS Bands will once again participate in our Chamber Music Project.
As before, students will be given certain class days to work on their chamber projects. These days, called Chamber Music Days, will give students the opportunity to pick some music as a member of a small ensemble or as a soloist and work on it throughout the year. In order to complete the project, students have two different options in order to track their progress. Both components involve regular practice and performance.
As last year, we will be forming larger Chamber Woodwind, Chamber Brass, and Chamber Percussion groups. Students who sign up for these chamber groups will automatically be selecting option 2, as we will be performing at Solo & Ensemble Festivals. Concert Band, Symphony Band, and Wind Ensemble students are all invited to sign-up for these, although space is limited. More information will be provided to students in classes later this week, as they begin to make their choices for this project. If there are any questions about our Chamber Music Project, please feel free to ask me at any time. This project is a great chance to explore all the truly wonderful experiences, opportunities, and benefits that arise from playing chamber music. I am very much looking forward to these fine young musicians choosing some music, finding some friends to play with, and sharing their music with others! ~Mrs. Staniszewski Comments are closed.
