As we look ahead to November, we anticipate our final marching band performances of the season, the start of our chamber music project studies, the lottery for our Chicago trip, and much more! Here is this week’s update:
Concert Ensembles Large Chamber Ensembles Our large chamber ensembles rehearsal schedules are set and posted on our Google Calendar! If you have any questions about which group you have been assigned, please ask your respective group director. Please note: your attendance at these rehearsals are part of your chamber music project grade and are required. If you need to be absent, you must notify your director in advance (less than 24 hours notice is not acceptable), and all music department attendance policies apply. Large Woodwind Ensembles (directed by Mr. Horton; [email protected]): -Group 1: Wednesdays (beginning 11/8/17) from 2:45-3:45pm -Group 2: Fridays (beginning 11/10/17) from 2:45-3:45pm Large Brass Ensembles (directed by Tristan Hughes; [email protected]): -Group 1: Thursdays (beginning 11/16/17): from 3:15-4:15pm -Group 2: Tuesdays (beginning 11/14/17): from 3:15-4:15pm Large Percussion Ensemble (directed by James Watkins; [email protected]): -Thursday 11/2, 11/9 -Fridays (beginning 11/17) from 2:45-4:00pm Chicago/Hamilton Trip SCHS Band students will have the opportunity to take a day trip to see Hamilton: The Musical on Wednesday, March 14th. We have a block of 56 seats reserved for the matinee show that day. Please read ALL of the following details pertaining to this trip below: *Of the 56 seats, 50 seats are for students, 5 for adult chaperones, 1 director. *Seniors and Wind Ensemble members have guaranteed seats, should they choose to go. * Remaining seats will be selected by lottery. *All chaperone seats will also be filled by lottery, pertaining to the following guidelines: Adults wishing to attend as a chaperone MUST have an ICHAT on file with Rochester Community Schools, and MUST also have their student going on the trip. *The trip cost is $199/pp. This includes bussing, lunch in Chicago, and ticket cost. Students will need to bring additional monies for breakfast and dinner en route. *Students may use SAF monies for this trip if they choose. *To claim your seat/be entered in the lottery, your check made out to SCHS Music Boosters needs to be submitted to me on or before Tuesday, October 31st. *To facilitate the lottery process, I must receive a separate check for person wishing to attend. (i.e., if wishing to chaperone, I must receive separate checks for each you and your student. *The lottery will happen in early November, at which point a trip roster will be announced. A waiting list will also be populated from lottery entries, should a seat become available. Those who were entered in the lottery but not selected will receive their checks back once the trip roster is finalized. Our official trip itinerary through Bob Rogers Travel can be found in our Documents or by clicking here: drive.google.com/open?id=0ByG3p5FBCoweUy15OE9iS016MnM Marching Band Next Rehearsal: Monday, 10/30, 6-9pm Next Performances: *End of Season Concert Celebration: Wednesday, November 15, 2017: This exciting new event for our calendar is all about starting new traditions, celebrating old ones, and honoring all our marching band & color guard members for their accomplishments over this past season! Throughout the evening, we will be perform all of our music throughout the season as well as presenting all of our marching band awards for the year while taking a look back on all we have done throughout the season. Please invite your friends and families to join us in the SCHS Auditorium for a great night of music, honors, and memories! *Village Tree Lighting: Friday, November 17, 2017: The SCHS Cougar Marching Band will help ring in the holiday season at the Village of Rochester Hills for their annual tree-lighting ceremony. More information about this performance will be made available as it becomes available. *Rochester Christmas Parade: Sunday, December 3, 2017: The SCHS Cougar Marching Band will again be marching in this annual hometown tradition.
