Congratulations to Kevin W. (Clarinet) on representing SCHS Bands, Stoney Creek High School, and Rochester Community Schools at the Michigan Music Conference this past weekend in Grand Rapids! Kevin was selected from over 2,700 auditions across the state of Michigan to participate in the 2019 MSBOA All-State High School Honors Band!

SCHS Music Booster Scholarships The SCHS Music Boosters will hold their annual scholarship auditions on February 5, 2019! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to earn money that can be applied to outside music camps (such as Blue Lake), Private Lessons, and more!

Disney Trip Update REHEARSAL UPDATE: Due to last week's ice days/adjusted schedule, our WDW rehearsal for this week will be on Monday, 11:15am-12:30pm, after exams. Students are encouraged to bring a snack/lunch to eat prior to our rehearsal. We also have our final official trip meeting coming up this week on Wednesday, January 30th! Chaperones are asked to arrive at 6pm to go over final details prior to our full group meeting beginning at 7pm. If a student is not able to be present at this meeting, please have a family member or representative there in order to pick up final materials and information. If you would like your ticket number ahead of time in order to schedule fastpasses for the parks, please see/contact Mrs. Staniszewski. We will be visiting the following parks on the following dates:

Instrument Petting Zoo We are in need of student volunteers to help our incoming 6th graders "pet" some instruments at our annual Instrument Petting Zoo, this Tuesday from 5-7pm in the SCHS Band Room. If you are available please let Mrs. Staniszewski know! This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours for NHS/Key Club. Midterm Assignments/Projects Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble students will be composing a short piece of chamber music to be performed by Hart MS students for our Chamber Music Night in May. More information can be found by clicking here. All compositions (PDFs and Audio files) must be submitted electronically by January 23rd, 2019. Concert Band students need to perform all twelve major scales, one octave, from memory. Students may choose to perform these live or video record themselves (must be done in one take, not edited). Videos or live performances must be received by January 22nd, 2019. Crosstown Showdown: Friday, January 25th Attention all musicians! The Crosstown Showdown Basketball tournament is coming up and we need YOU for pep band! This annual event features the varsity boys and girls basketball teams from Stoney Creek going up against Rochester HS. The event will begin at approximately 5:15pm and go until approximately 9pm. Playing in the game will get you into the games for FREE! Beginning this week, we welcome Mr. John Hallman from Oakland University who will be spending the next few months completing his degree and student teaching with us in the band room. Jazz Band Jazz Band Retreat Dates: January 11-13, 2019 We are looking to kick off our Jazz Band season with a fun getaway! Our first ever SCHS Jazz Band Retreat will be held on the afternoon of Friday, January 11, 2019 through Sunday morning, January 13, 2019 at the Embassy Suites in Troy. Check-in for students will be from 4:30-5:00pm, followed by dinner and our first rehearsal. Students are welcome to bring games and any peanut free snacks, if they wish. Our retreat will end on Sunday, January 13th with a concert performance at 10:00am. If there are any additional questions, please ask Mrs. Staniszewski. Looking forward to a great retreat to kick off our jazz band season! Additional Opportunities OU Clarinet Solo & Ensemble Day Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 11:30 - 2:30 p.m. Free admission Register today! Clarinetists in grades 9-12 are invited to perform solo and ensemble works in preparation for Solo and Ensemble Festivals. Oakland University clarinet professor George Stoffan will offer suggestions for soloists and ensembles. Clarinet ensembles, as well as mixed ensembles, are encouraged to perform. Even if students have already performed in a Solo and Ensemble Festival, this session can help in preparation for performances at the state level. All will benefit from the opportunity to perform for all in attendance and from the feedback from Professor Stoffan. Note: Parents and Teachers are welcome to attend!
