We are down to the final three weeks of school before summer! Here is this week's update:
Concert Ensembles Inventory ALL school owned instruments and music (jazz, marching, chamber music, old concert music, warm-up books, etc.) are due ASAP! Please be sure to turn in anything that is not being used for graduation so that we can get a head start on inventory. Inventory must be completed before the end of the year before instruments can be checked out for summer/marching use. Final Exams/Assignments Concert Band: All 12 major scales from memory, one octave. (Multiple octaves can be performed for extra credit.) Symphony Band: All 12 melodic minor scales from memory, one octave. (Multiple octaves can be performed for extra credit.) Students may choose to create a video of themselves performing the scales, or may perform them live any time between now and the day of the final exam. Students may also use their circle of fifths sheet, but should not use any sheets on which the scales are printed note by note. NYC/Carnegie Recordings, Pictures, Posters: For those who performed in NYC in April, an email with order forms were recently sent to order replica posters and pictures from our performance. If you have not yet received the ordering information and would like to place an order, please e-mail Mrs. Staniszewski. Upcoming Performances/Events: June 8: Graduation at O'Rena (Oakland University); Rehearsal to be held during school day, busses will be provided for rehearsal. Ceremony will be held that evening; students will need transportation for the evening's commencement. Jazz Band Congratulations on a wonderful first year! At this time, ALL Jazz music and instruments are due for inventory and should be turned in ASAP. Some changes we are looking to make for next year include evening only rehearsals and multiple jazz groups so there is something for every interest and experience level. Marching Band Marching Band Registration: If you missed our registration night for marching band, it isn't too late to join us for the 2017-2018 season! Please see Mrs. Staniszewski for details. Mini-Camp: Our Marching Band Mini-Camp is coming up quickly! This year's dates are Monday, June 19th, Tuesday June 20th, and Wednesday, June 21st. The schedule for each day will be: 4:00-5:00pm: Leadership (Drum majors and section leaders are required, all seniors are invited) 5:00-6:30pm: Leadership & rookie marchers 6:30-7:00pm: Dinner Break 7:00-9:00pm*: All marchers *On our first night, June 19th, we will bonding over ice cream for the last hour of rehearsal! The Treat Dreams food truck will be visiting us and taking orders from 8-9pm. If you wish to purchase any treats, be sure to bring some money. Everyone is welcome to stay and have fun, with or without ice cream! Pre-Camp Rehearsal/USPBL Performance Our Pre-Camp rehearsal will be held on Thursday, July 20th from 6:00-8:00pm, followed the next day by a performance at Jimmy John's Field in Utica for the Eastside Hoppers vs. Westside Wooly Mammoth's baseball game! Performing students will get into the game for free, and we will be performing pre-game and through the first inning. We are also selling ticket packages as a fundraiser! For $30, each person purchasing a ticket package will get entry into the game, an all-you-can eat buffet, two beverage tickets, autograph/mascot photo opportunities, and more! Chamber Music Night at Rochester Park: Monday, May 22nd One of our greatest nights of the year, Chamber Music Night, is coming up next Monday, May 22nd! Check here for the schedule of performances! Be sure to sign-up for times if you haven't already done so! Also, make sure everyone in your group arrives to the back of the band shell at least 15 minutes prior to your performance time. Large WW Ensemble: 6:30pm (arrive 6:15pm) Large Brass (Fuguetta): 7:00pm (arrive 6:45pm) Large Brass (Kiev): 7:30pm (arrive 7:15pm) Jazz Band: 8:00pm (arrive 7:30pm) Those students who chose the portfolio option for their Chamber Music Project will need to turn in their recordings and journals by Friday, May 26th. After a truly special Spring Concert performance this past week, we are down to just a few more busy weeks before we wish our seniors the best of luck and we look ahead to the next school year!
Concert Ensembles Community Service Lessons Pizza Party: Tuesday, May 16th If you were a volunteer with our Community Service Lessons program, you are invited to join us (and the participating Hart students) for some free pizza on Tuesday after school, 2:45-3:30pm! Please be sure to invite you MS students to attend as well! (Even if you didn't end up with a student this year, you are welcome to come!) Band Banquet: Wednesday, May 17 Our annual end-of-year banquet celebration will be held at Addison Oaks on Wednesday, May 17th. Doors will open and the Jazz Band will begin playing at 6:00pm. Large Chamber Ensembles Final Rehearsal: Thursday, May 18th Each of our large brass and large woodwind ensembles will have their final rehearsal after school on Thursday, May 18th in anticipation of next Monday's Chamber Music Night at Rochester Park. If you are a member of these large chamber ensembles, our final performance will be the culmination of our annual Chamber Music Projects. You will need to attend this rehearsal in order to receive full credit! Honors Convocation: Tuesday, May 16th For this special performance, Jazz Band students will need to arrive at 5:45pm in Concert Dress (or graduation robes if you are being honored) for set-up. We will be performing our jazz set from 6:15-6:40pm. Once we are done with our jazz set, all seniors are dismissed and remaining members will switch to concert instruments to perform the processional, alma mater, and recessional. The ceremony itself will begin at 7:00pm, and should be completed around 8:30pm. Band Banquet: Wednesday, May 17th We will also be performing prelude music as families are entering for the band banquet. Jazz Band students should plan on arriving to Addison Oaks around 5:30 in order to start performing at 6:00pm. In addition, we need some students who are able to transport music stands for this performance-- if you are able to help, please let Mrs. Staniszewski know!
