We are down to our last few Weekly Updates for the school year! Here this week's update:
Concert Ensembles June 5: Graduation at O'Rena (Oakland University) During the day, students will be excused from hours 1-4 for rehearsal at Oakland. Bus transportation will be provided. Should any students wish to drive themselves to rehearsal, a parental note/e-mail must be given to Mrs. Stansizewski by Monday, June 4th. Students driving themselves are not permitted to drive other students and will need to report to the O'Rena at 8:30am. Seniors who will be joining us on the featured performance at Graduation should plan on arriving to the O'Rena with instruments and music, ready to rehearse at 10:15am. For the evening's ceremony, students will need to have their own transportation. It is highly suggested that students carpool or be dropped off at the O'Rena, as parking is quite limited. Students will need to be at the O'Rena by 6:00pm. Commencement exercises are usually complete between 9:00-9:30pm. Parents picking up performing students should plan to arrive around 9:15pm. Inventory All school owned instruments and music not being used for Graduation are due ASAP. After graduation, ALL SCHS instruments, music, and concert uniforms/dresses must be turned in. Inventory will be completed by the end the next week, at which point anyone looking to check out instruments for over the summer/marching band will be able to do so. To expedite the checkout process, please be sure to bring a completed instrument check-out contract (Found here) and $10 instrument usage fee. Scale Assignments Concert Band: All 12 major scales from memory, one octave. (Multiple octaves can be performed for extra credit.) Symphony Band: All 12 melodic minor scales from memory, one octave. (Multiple octaves can be performed for extra credit.) Students may choose to create a video of themselves performing the scales, or may perform them live any time between now and the day of the final exam. Students may also use their circle of fifths sheet, but should not use any sheets on which the scales are printed note by note. Live performances or videos must be completed by Tuesday, June 12th. We will be playing the Fight Song for the event as a part of a massive tunnel to help kick off the season! We will be done around 8:45pm. Plan on wearing SCHS gear. After we are done, all are invited to come join us at Bigalora (Rochester & Tienken Rds., in the same shopping center as Papa Joe’s) to thank them for their support at Chamber Music Night, and for some food and fun! This once-in-a-lifetime trip will consist of two different performance opportunities: Performing on a Disney Stage in Walt Disney World (as professional performers with Disney Entertainment), as well as working with a studio musician in a professional recording studio environment to record our own film soundtracks. While we are down in Orlando, we will also visit all four Disney theme parks. Any student enrolled in a year-long band class for the 2018-2019 school year is invited to register for this trip! UPDATE: We currently have 41 students and 1 chaperone registered for this trip! We need additional adults to meet our required chaperone ratio, or we will not be cleared to travel. The first 55 people to register (6 chaperones, 49 students) will have guaranteed seats, after which a waiting list will open. In order for the trip to proceed, the minimum number of travelers must be met (6 chaperones, 49 students). Should we hit 80 people (8 chaperones, 72 students) or more, the waiting list will be cleared and anyone who registers will be cleared for travel. Because this is such a prestigious opportunity for a momentous occasion, we absolutely need to make sure we have every possible musician playing to ensure a fantastic performance. Any SCHS Band student who is in town for Memorial Day is asked to participate. Please plan on attending and performing! (Any student who will be out of town is asked to please have an e-mail me for recording purposes.) Each year, Rochester hosts a very special Memorial Day celebration that features one of our three high school band programs and this year it is our honor to perform for this momentous occasion! The performance will begin at 10:30am at the War Memorial at Livernois and Avon Roads. Dress for this performance will be navy polos & khaki pants/shorts (MB Summer Uniform). Parking will be available at Rivercrest Banquet Center, directly across from the memorial location. For more information, please contact Mrs. Staniszewski. And the reason they are never easy is because everyone who auditions has so many incredible strengths to offer our ensemble. You all made our jobs very difficult-- which is a GREAT thing. It was very obvious to myself & our other adult panelists that you put your whole selves into your auditions/interviews. Remember: Great leaders are not great because of titles. We will then switch to concert instruments once the event begins at 6:30pm in order to perform the Processional & Recessional. The event should be done around 8pm. Band Banquet, Wednesday, May 16th For the Band Banquet, we will be performing our combined jazz sets again from 6:00-6:30pm. Students should plan on arriving to Addison Oaks by 5:30pm in order to get set up prior to play. We will then play as the doors open for guests and go until dinner is served at 6:30pm. SCHS Bands Trip 2019 SCHS Bands will be traveling to Walt Disney World on February 14-19, 2019! This once-in-a-lifetime trip will consist of two different performance opportunities: Performing on a Disney Stage in Walt Disney World (as professional performers with Disney Entertainment), as well as working with a studio musician in a professional recording studio environment to record our own film soundtracks. While we are down in Orlando, we will also visit all four Disney theme parks. Any student enrolled in a year-long band class for the 2018-2019 school year is invited to register for this trip! UPDATE: We currently have 38 students and 1 chaperone registered for this trip! The first 55 people to register (6 chaperones, 49 students) will have guaranteed seats, after which a waiting list will open. In order for the trip to proceed, the minimum number of travelers must be met (6 chaperones, 49 students). Should we hit 80 people (8 chaperones, 72 students) or more, the waiting list will be cleared and anyone who registers will be cleared for travel. Band Registration for 2018-2019 The on line registration is now open for all of Stoney Creek's music programs. This registration is separate from the class registration that was completed earlier. This allows music students to sign up to go to camp, get their uniforms, performance attire, etc. Please click on the following link to register your music student. This night will be for getting fitted for uniforms, dress attire, spirit wear, as well as pay for items. Your student will also meet their fellow students, and if in marching band, their section leaders. It is very important that all attend. This is for all marching band, band ensemble and choir students and will be from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Stoney Creek in the music wing (Auditorium side). We will complete the registration in the following groups: Last Names A thru D: 5:00 - 5:45 pm Last Names E thru Ko: 5:45 - 6:30 pm Last Names Kr thru R: 6:30 - 7:15 pm Last Names S thru Z: 7:15 - 8:00 pm If you cannot attend in your designated time slot, please come when you are available. Students will need to report in concert dress at 5:30pm for our combined rehearsal/sound check. We will begin at 7:00pm. A reminder that all students are asked to provide a nut free treat for our after glow. Students are welcome to drop them off upon arrival, or have someone else drop it off prior to 6:30pm. Large Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal The Large Percussion Ensemble will rehearse after school on Wednesday, May 9th prior to performing for our Spring Concert on May 9th. One person per group needs to sign up for a performance time. (Be sure to list all the members in your performing group when you sign up.) Be sure to sign up for as many consecutive minutes as you need to complete your performance. (i.e., if you have 2:30 music, you will need to sign up for 3 minutes worth of slots.) Music will be passed out and rehearsed in all three band classes after our Spring Concert. All band students are asked to participate- Marching Band & Concert Ensembles. The performance will begin at 10:30am at the War Memorial at Livernois and Avon Roads. Dress for this performance will be navy polos & khaki pants/shorts (MB Summer Uniform). Parking will be available at Rivercrest Banquet Center, directly across from the memorial location. For more information, please contact Mrs. Staniszewski. We are also in need of two trumpet players to assist with playing taps. Please contact Mrs. Staniszewski if you are able to assist with this portion of the ceremony. Students are asked to arrive to Cliff Bell’s at 4:30pm for a 5:00pm set-up/soundcheck. Please let Mrs. Staniszewski know if you need transportation assistance, or if you are able to help drive/carpool other students/equipment. Students needing transportation will need to have a signed note by a parent/guardian giving permission to carpool with one of our parent drivers. Our performance set will begin at 6pm and the SCHS Jazz Bands will perform first, followed by the Adams Jazz Band. Out set will finish at 8pm. It’s going to be an AWESOME SHOW! We hope you can join us for a historic performance- the SCHS Jazz Bands have some fantastic sets, and for the first time, will feature two jazz singers as a part of our line-up!
