As we wrap up January and head into February, we are just a few weeks away from our next concerts: Pre-Festival Concerts are coming up for Concert and Symphony Bands on February 16th, and Wind Ensemble on February 17th! We're also looking forward to our DSO trip this Friday, February 4th and much more-- here's what's going on this week and in the weeks to come:
DSO Trip: Friday, February 4, 2022 Our DSO Trip is coming this week on Friday, Feb 4. Buses will pick up at the school by the auditorium at 6 pm. Show starts at 8pm and will be done by 10pm. For all participating in this trip, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra requires proof of vaccination to attend live performances at Orchestra Hall. Please be prepared to present your proof of vaccination at the door as well as bring a mask. From the Detroit Symphony Orchestra: Starting September 18, 2021, the DSO will require proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test to enter. While inside, guests must also wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status, unless you are actively eating or drinking. Please avoid entry if you feel ill, have a fever, or have been exposed to someone with symptoms of COVID-19 in the past ten days. Proof of vaccination or a negative test must be presented at all entry points. Accepted vaccines are those currently approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration: Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. Negative test results must be from either a PCR test taken within 48 hours of your performance time, or from an antigen test – also known as a rapid test – taken within 6 hours of your performance time. We recommend using the Clear app, available for both Apple and Android devices, to store and present your information upon entry. You may also present a physical copy or digital image stored on your phone. Please have this ready to show before you reach the first set of doors. Leadership Meeting We will be having our next band leadership meeting on Monday, February 7th, 4-5pm in the band room. During our leadership meetings, we discuss how we can best serve ourselves, each other, our bands, and our community. All students are highly encouraged to attend, particularly those who are interested in being more active participants and those who may seek leadership positions within the bands in the future! Good Morning SCHS Band Families,
We have couple of important developments to announce since the release of our weekly update over the weekend: 1) District XVI will be offering a Virtual S&E option for any student who is uncomfortable or unable to perform at the in-person events. All in-person events and festivals will continue to run as planned. The same rules, schedules, and policies will be in place for both the in-person and virtual options with one new exception: accompanists are now recommended, not required, for both middle school and high school festivals. If a student wishes to perform for the Virtual S&E instead of the in-person festival, they will receive a link and information to perform their selection via OpusEvents (this is the same platform used for last year's Virtual S&E event). Students interested in switching to the virtual option must tell Mrs. Staniszewski by Thursday, January 13th. All high school virtual events must have their recording completed and uploaded to Opus events by January 22. Any high school event, in-person or virtual, that earns a division I rating will qualify for state solo & ensemble festival. 2) We will be taking yearbook photos in each band class tomorrow, Tuesday, January 11th. Students will need to bring their concert blacks to school for these pictures, including black shoes, socks, ties, vests, etc. Racks will be available for students to leave their uniforms in their garment bags until our class periods. Please plan accordingly. Please let Mrs. Staniszewski know if any additional questions arise. Wishing everyone the very best in health and wellness!
