A heartfelt congratulations to all our student musicians and performers on a wonderful Spring Concert this past week! I'm very excited to share that thanks to the support of our SCHS Music Boosters, the performance was professionally recorded and will be available for your listening/viewing pleasure on our YouTube channel in the weeks to come. I'm so thankful for our SCHS Music Boosters and all our community support in recording this week's performance-- after all the hard work these students have put into their performances, it's wonderful to have the performance preserved professionally to enjoy and share for posterity. We have even more great live music ahead coming up this week at our Band Banquet, next week with our Chamber Music Night, and the weeks to come! All the details are right here in this week's Update: CONCERT ENSEMBLES Band Banquet: Thursday, May 9th This year's Band Banquet will be taking place on Thursday, May 9th at Twin Lakes Golf Course. Doors open at 5:30pm along with prelude music from our Cougar Jazz Band, prior to dinner being served and our annual awards presentation and celebration of our seniors. Freshmen who marched will receive their varsity letter, our seniors are presented with Graduation Honors Cords (concert ensemble for 4 years), our plaque awards are presented, our 2024 Marching Band Show Reveal, and much more! Looking forward to seeing everyone there for this big celebration! Graduation: Tuesday, May 28, 2024 Commencement exercises and graduation for Stoney Creek HS will be on Tuesday, May 28th. During the school day, students will travel to the O'Rena for a technical rehearsal and sound check. In the evening, students will need to return to the O'Rena prepared to perform for the final time this school year in their Concert Blacks. More details will be presented as they are confirmed. This is a required performance for all student musicians- please mark your calendars! Auditions for the 2024-25 School Year Auditions for the 2024-2025 school year will be held during select classes in May. Chamber Music Night: Monday, May 13, 2024 All students will be performing in our annual Chamber Music Night on Monday, May 13th! It will be a great night of food and music in our outdoor performance area, The Hill. Students: Please sign-up for your performance times using this Sign-Up. Each time slot is 2 minutes long. Cougar Marching Band Registration Night: Wednesday, May 29th Registration night for the Cougar Marching Band will be held in the evening on Wednesday, May 29th. It is at this night students will be fit for marching shoes and uniforms, meet their section leaders, receive a tentative calendar for the year, complete registration forms and band camp information, and much more. More details will be announced as they are confirmed. Mini Band Camp: June 5, 6, & 7th The Marching Season begins on with Mini-Band Camp! These half-day sessions (11am-4pm) are required for all members of the Cougar Marching Band for the coming season. During these sessions, students will receive music for the season, establish a summer sectional schedule, exchange contact information, learn and refresh marching basics on the stadium field, learn more about band camp, and prepare to perform for the first time together on the evening of June 7th at Jimmy John's Field. Students should plan to bring a lunch each of these days and eat in the cafeteria at SCHS before practice starts at noon. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks! Season Kick-Off: Jimmy John's Field, Friday, June 7th The 2024-25 Cougar Marching Band kicks off it's season with our Mini-Camp on June 5-7th, along with a performance at Jimmy John's Field on Friday, June 7th. Cougar Marching Band Leadership Interviews Interested in applying to be a section leader, captain, or Drum Major for the Cougar Marching Band? Interviews are being held Monday, May 6th and Monday, May 13 after school for those interested in a leadership position for the coming school year. Stoney Creek Percussion Workshops Our Percussion Staff will be hosting placement auditions for our Cougar Marching Band Percussion Caption on May 9th and 16th from 2:30-3:30pm. Extracurricular Performing Opportunities Detroit Summer Jazz Workshop The Detroit Summer Jazz Workshop is currently accepting applications for our July 8-12 2024 instrumental workshop at the MSU Center and vocal camp at Music Hall, both in Midtown Detroit. We offer weeklong jazz instruction in our morning or afternoon workshop to all students of all ages above 10, on any instrument, at any experience level. Spots fill up quickly so save yours with a $50 reservation fee on the 'application' page. Whether you want to have a fun and casual experience or are looking to progress to the next steps of your jazz education, we have the top jazz educator/performers in Metro-Detroit that you'll have the opportunity to work with in the heart of jazz-legacy rich historic Detroit.
