March is officially here and with it comes our big festival season! Things get kicked off this week with our MSBOA District Band Festival performances at Clarkston HS. Concert Ensembles (CB, SB, WE) MSBOA District Band Festival at Clarkston HS Our festival performance times have been announced! The Concert Band will perform for District IV MSBOA Band Festival on Friday, March 10 and the Symphony Band & Wind Ensemble will perform on Saturday, March 11th. More details can be found on our timeline here. State Solo & Ensemble at SCHS on Saturday, March 18th Our State S&E Performance Schedule can be found by clicking this link- good luck to all performing! Community Service Lessons Students, please consider signing up to be a HS mentor for a Hart MS Band student! Mentors will give 30 minute private lessons to MS musicians through the school year, and it's a great way to share a love of music as well as earn NHS Hours, Key Club points, community service hours for scouts, and more. To sign up, please complete this form: Community Service Lessons Mentor Form Travel Survey: We will be looking ahead to traveling again as a band program in 2025. If you/your student are planning to participate in our SCHS Bands in 2025, we would love your ideas! Please complete this survey to provide us with your input for future trips. SCHS Bands 2025 Travel Survey Cougar Jazz Band Regular rehearsals will resume again on March 6th, 8th and 9th. Jazz Band & Jazz Lab Syllabus Jazz Band spirit wear is now available for purchase! Please note: the per-person cover fee for this performance has gone up. This rise in cover was absolutely necessary to make our margin to put on this performance. Click here for more information, to place your RSVPs, and more. Cougar Marching Band SCHS Marching Percussion Calling all SCHS Percussionists! Our drop in clinics have begun in anticipation of auditions happening later in the spring! 2023-24 packets for both our frontline and drumline can be found here: Frontline Packet Drumline Packet Student Leadership Meetings Our next student leadership meeting is coming up on Monday, March 6th at 4:00pm. All students are welcome, and those seeking a future leadership role are highly encouraged. Each committee will be looking ahead to the spring and helping to plan for the end of the year and into next year. Take Your Child to Work Day Instrument Petting Zoo Sign-Up (5th Hr, Th 4/27) 8th Grade Welcome Night Sign-Up (Tues, 3/14, 6-8pm) Adams HS is in need of additional volunteers to assist with their band festival this Friday and Saturday night. If you are available and would like to volunteer to pick up additional hours/experience, please see this sign up for available slots. Upcoming Leadership Meeting Dates: April 10th (2:30pm) May 8th (2:30pm) June 5th (2:30pm). SCHS Music Boosters State Solo & Ensemble is coming up on Saturday, March 18th! We are very excited to be hosting State Solo & Ensemble for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association this year! This prestigious event hosts student musicians from over 30 area high schools who earned top ratings at the District S&E events earlier in the year, and who may move on to receive top honors and scholarships from MSBOA. We have a tradition of hosting this event at Stoney annually, and while we haven't been able to host since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic, we are very excited that this event will be back in person at Stoney Creek HS again for the coming year. Because of the size and breadth of this event, all SCHS Band and Orchestra parents and students (whether or not they are performing) need to volunteer for this event to be a successful one. This has been a point of pride in our music program for many, many years and as a result, many MSBOA judges request to come to SCHS for the wonderful experiences they've had here in the past for this event. Extracurricular Opportunities Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the 2022-2023 Young Artist Competition to be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The winner(s) will receive the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra the evening of May 5, 2023 and an award of $500. Interlochen Arts Camp are also providing various scholarships for all participants. The competition is open to band or orchestral applicants between the ages of 12-18 years. University of Michigan Youth Ensembles 2023-2024 Auditions Greetings from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater & Dance! We are excited to announce applications for the 2023-2024 Michigan Youth Ensemble Season are now available! From the Top, a music nonprofit organization most widely known for its radio program on NPR. From the Top will be recording a radio show in Michigan during their 2023-2024 season featuring young musicians from around the state, and is looking for Rochester Community Schools musicians apply to take part in our Fellowship, which includes the radio (and podcast) recording. What is From the Top? From the Top is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the stories, talents, and character of young classically-trained musicians ages 8-18. Selected students will take part in our Fellowship, which includes recording for our NPR radio program and participating in virtual workshops with their peers that explore career opportunities in the arts, audio production, community engagement, and more.
