We are down to our last update of the 2021 Calendar year! On a personal note, I am very much looking forward to inviting audiences back into our auditorium this week for our Winter Concert-- All three bands have been working very hard and have some wonderful music to share for this performance. Here are all the details for this week and into the next year coming from the SCHS Band Room:
Music Boosters Announcements Parent Volunteers Needed! It takes many hands throughout our school year to help our events run smoothly. To see where help is needed, please click here to review our SCHS Music Boosters Sign-Up Genius List. DSO Trip: Friday, February 4, 2022 We are excited to offer the opportunity to see the classical music concert, Rachmaninoff & Rodrigo at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on Friday, February 4th, 2022. This program explores a unique showpiece on the Spanish guitar and Rachmaninoff’s Third Symphony. Please click here see our registration form for more details and to purchase tickets. Registration and payment must be made by December 17th, 2021. Concert Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble) Winter Concert: Thursday, December 16 The SCHS Concert Ensembles are proud to present our Winter Band Concert on Thursday, December 15th! Students will need to arrive to Stoney by 5:15pm in order to begin our combined rehearsal on stage at 5:30pm. Doors will open at 6:30pm to audience members. A full timeline for the performance can be found here. Winter Concert Recording Help! We are in need of any families/friends with high quality camera/microphones to help record our concert. Please contact Mrs. Staniszewski if you are able to help! LAST CALL: Sleigh Ride (Calling all Musicians!)! The SCHS Bands would like to welcome any SCHS alumni, faculty/staff, and family members of current SCHS Band instrumentalists to join us on stage to play the Leroy Anderson holiday classic, Sleigh Ride, for our grand concert finale. If you are able to attend and join us, please RSVP by completing this form! Any alumni/family musicians joining us on stage MUST provide their own PPE (including bell cover for wind instruments). Travel Update In lieu of our Hawaii trip, the SCHS Bands are considering a short (1-2 night) trip in Spring 2022 to take its place in our travel schedule. Your feedback is desired! Each SCHS Band student & parent is asked to please complete this survey. Into 2022... Here are some important dates to make sure are on your calendar as we head into the new year...
Chamber Ensembles Both Brass (Wednesday, 3-4pm) and Percussion (Tuesday, 2:30-3:30pm) will meet this coming week. All participants who haven't already done so need to bring $5 for the group S&E registration and turn it in to their respective coaches. Community Service Lessons Calling all HS Band Musicians! We are re-starting our Community Service Lessons Program with the Hart MS Bands! This is a great way to earn community service hours for Key Club, NHS, Scouts, as well as have fun connecting with and helping a Hart MS Band Musician. If you/your student is interested in being a HS Mentor Musician, please complete this Google Form to have your name added to our Mentor List. Please note: Adding your name and expressing your interest doesn't necessarily mean you will be contacted by a MS student to teach. But, it does mean you are willing to teach at least one student for 30 min/week, based on your and their schedule availability, should you be contacted. Jazz Band Jazz Band Retreat We are looking forward to a great retreat in January! Please stay tuned for more information to be posted here and shared via Student/ParentVUE in the coming days leading up to our retreat. Cougar Marching Band Parent Support for Next Year's Marching Band A successful season for next year starts today! Help is needed to fill some critical positions looking ahead for Fall 2022. Additional Opportunities The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD) is thrilled to announce that MPulse Performing Arts Institutes are back, in-person, for 2022!
Institutes are designed for students considering studying these areas in college and for those seeking to connect with SMTD’s renowned faculty. Participants hail from all parts of the United States as well as internationally.
